Kami's Turned Loose?

HD,

There's a hell of a knife with a 12" blade sitting one foot behind me from EDMF. I was supposed to visit Dale before or on the way back from WA, but I didn't make it. :(

Dan, GRS is too honkin' big. Yeah, I like big blades, but I got rid of my GRS for this reason. I'd like to see something like a Chitlangi with at least a small guard underneath the blade, to protect the hand from the edge for stabs. I'm
less concerned about planning on stopping an incoming strike with a guard.

Hell, I'd like to see bolo (straight) versions of several of the kuks. I'd like to see
a saber blade fitted to a katana-style two-handed handle. I'd like a tarwar with a guard.

While I'm at it, I'd like a black Lab retriever, a nice Boxer for my firstborn, and a few million bucks. I'd settle, for now, for some kukuris with guards.

oops...meant to say BGRS...:o

17" long, not 22"

Still too big perhaps...

Dan,

Baby GRS might work. My 21" Chit ain't too big. I've seen at least one D-handled kuk, but I don't like those much. I just want something protecting my hand from sliding onto the blade if I stab. If one is using a kuk, the guard could be longer than the one you put on my Sticker, because of the forward-curving blade.

If one wanted combination fanciful/bellicose, a guard with an up-curve on the back of the blade, and a down curve on the front would work well. Theoretical trapping/protecting potential on the back, and protecting on the front from both enemy cuts and your own stabs.

John, blades are tools, mmmkay? ;)

No Spectre, Ive had one of those before , it felt great in shape , design & balance but the build quality was not brilliant, nice carved wooden scabbard though.

I think there 1930s to 1950s.

N2s has a real HI custom made job with a gaurd & fullers somewhere! ;)

special order I think.

I like everything except for the full "D" guard. If the blade-side guard terminated at the same length as the spine-side, it'd be about perfect. :)

What was the old saying about " a face only a mother could love? " Not referring to anyone's pride and joy in particular, just observing that folks have different tastes.

Like Spectre's too big GRS...someone say....*MY* size would find it juuuuust right! ;)

Heh. Funny thing...I remember how awkward holding a Remington PSS or HK 91 was. When I came back from Basic (I gained 10 lbs), I realized that the rifles had gotten lighter!

Still, "A man's got to know his limitations." :D

Spectre,

What EDMF do you have? I love my smatchet. I have one of the AF type models. I have one of the smaller Bolos on order from them too.

I was totally impressed by the edge and temper on my smatchet from them. :D

I bought a 12" bladed "tanto style" for me. My buddy Byron liked it, so I bought one for him, too. I also gave a kuk Dale made to a respected MA instructor (he said it was sharper than a Japanese blade. Since the one he uses is worth something like $12,000, he probably knows!).

Byron has an EDMF on order for a good friend and fellow THR mod, as well.

I was talking about visiting Dale before I left Fort Lewis, on maybe on my Transitional Leave, but I just couldn't make it. :(

studied a little whin chun, they use little short swords in pairs,
they use the d handle and forward facing rear guard to flip the blade to an underhand position and back ( quickly),It's a cute little trick. With a lite blade, I think it could work pretty well........ interesting to play with anyway.....

Got any pix of them?? How are their khuks? The only reservation I'd have on their khuks is they are only(only ;) ) quarter inch. Did that one chop oK?

It looked like a good blade, but I didn't use it at all. It was a gift, and the man I gave it to lived in Japan.

More a fighter than a heavy chopper, but sturdy enough.
