I'm seeing dollar signs for pretty much all of you telling me you've got 50+ Kukri! It makes me worry that I'll get bit by the same bug once I hold mine for the first time.

We'll just have to see if being an Industrial Designer makes me enough money after I graduate!

Oh the bug ... we call it the HIKV will infect whom ever receives one of HI's products. I told myself I would only buy one, and 18WWII by Bhakta. Well, a couple years later and I find myself buying two or three kukri/sword/knife every month. They really are addicting. Waiting for those triangle boxes brings on new meaning once you are infected with the virus. The only cure for the ailment is more triangle boxes :D.

I see a lot of people trying to justify more than one kukri. They say "I need one for chopping", or "I need one for fighting". There is no need to justify buying from HI. Your money is going directly to the people that could really use it. These are no middle men, no importers, or other crooks. You are buying a fair trade product with HI. Buy as many as you like, and feel good knowing your money is doing good and not just going in some fat cats wallet. I would bet the farm that you will have at least two or three HI kukris before the end of the month.

I am told Industrial Design is a reasonably lucrative field. You'll have yourself a good HI collection soon enough. I've managed to amass a collection of about 17 fixed blades, and I haven't gotten my bachelors yet.

I have no idea what translates to what. I do know on my first visit with auntie she referred to him as the Prince.
"He's the best" her words and my thoughts.

I'm a year away from my Bachelor's and the end of my long career as a student. I've spent a TON of money through the years on firearms, and airsoft (my other expensive hobby). Fixed blades have only become a recent hobby of mine when I started making knives which I started because I built a heat treat oven to complete an AK74 parts kit build and it took off from there. I'm a little ashamed to admit it, but I was looking to get a Hanbon Katana before realizing, "I don't have a kukri yet!" Obviously I opted for a functional blade rather than a replica. There's no going back now!

Also, I'm guessing HIKV is Himalayan Imports Knife Virus?

Himalayan Imports Khukuri Virus is the actual moniker, but yours is close enough. ;)

Well, I expect another victim of HIKV, and another convert to the HI Everest Katana soon enough.

Welcome to the forum and HI

WAAAYYY too much money for me to spend at once for the time being. I can't speak for the future, but I prefer the traditional handle and Saya if I'm going to spend that kind of money for a Katana. I won't lie; I have been staring at those blades on ndog's avatar. What are they?

Yangdu: Thank you for the warm welcome!

They're a form of HI Bowie, I just can't remember which.

As for the handle and Saya of a katana, they may not be the high-end traditional but the HI Katana handles are not entirely untraditional. I just had a look online and found some old Japanese made katana with similar handles. And the blades themselves are more traditional than a lot of katana out there. Take a look at this thread for some cool stuff: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1290745-Sword-Edge-Tempering?highlight=katana.

Giant Chitlangi Bowies. Dont ever pass up a chance on one of them beauties. They are like none other:thumbup:

Those dollar signs are a sure indicator that you have already been bitten by the khukuri bug. The resultant disease is usually not terminal--as long as you can lie, plead, and wheedle the wife.....welcome to the shark infested waters.

The ones that always pull at me are the ones with a story. The Ang Jowla sword- shooting fire at zombies- if that doesn't stir oneself, you have no pulse, therefor you are a zombie! Ganga Ram monster hunter? Done deal- mine's in the mail :)

Ndog: How much does one of those beauties cost? They aren't on the website. I'm not at all ready to buy one but trust me, It's pretty high on the list thanks to those photos.

It usually depends on size and quality. A blem will be cheaper, but the larger ones (24") usually go for around $300,give or take. A knife of the same quality and size will run at least double that anywhere else.

I wasn't going to go anywhere else anyway.

Still a bit out of range for the time being, but definitely not out of mind.

Take a second mortgage on your house man! Its definitely worth it! Tell them its for tools to add on a patio or porch to the back of the house. You can take a pretty good cut off a 2x4 if you practice:D They are about 3/8" thick and fullered all the way down. They look heavy but the balance and craftsmanship is superb. They ring like a bell when you thump them. They look heavy because they are so wide but them fullers really lighten it up. Probably my favorite sword of all. I like any Chitlangi tho.
