Karambit question....

Ya but with the money you pay you get the warranty. Thats also what a lot of people pay for. Personally I prefer the Fox because its a better price (i like the steel better) and each time I send my fox in they take care of it as if I was their family.

But if I was torn between choosing a knife that had a good warranty AND a knife that has a equally good warranty, but superior blade/handle materials and fit (irrespective of finish, which we'll assume is superior), which would I choose?

Tough question. Back when Gentleman Jims and V ground CQC-7's were released, they ran 220$ or shipped, and I believe that's how much something like the ZT 0560's and 0301's are going for.

It's unfortunate not many companies are licensed to produce Emerson designs. I have an automatic-Commander made by Kershaw, but that's the only non-Emerson made model that I really care for (other than the Benchmade CQC-7's floating around).

It is a good point. I try to balance my my quality-warranty at least 85%-15% when buying a knife so i am confident as well as covered

I don't teach silat much now and If i do its in charleston. I suggest you look into an indonesian art called Silat or watch the Emerson videos (havent seen them but I hear they are good). The most important thing that gets me when someone holds a karambit, is to hold it the right way. Sure one way you have angles but your mainly just picking and you loose the use of half of the karambit. To get the best use out of it hold it like this

with your index through the ring. That way you can jab with the ring and have more control over the knife making it harder to disarm. Later if you start training and get more advanced you can do throw and submissions and defensive techniques with that position.
Just practice the jab, the way a karambit is designed, you can get your whole body behind the blade. So when you jab your force can be increased by hip motion and your body. Hard to explain online but you can probably look it up on youtube or something.

just keep in mind the karambit is not a toy, if you want to train with it remember, if used wrong it can hurt you or over do it on your opponent

I realize it's definitely dangerous. I've cut my hand numerous times at work, pretty badly. So I know what it feels like and I'm not the kind of guy to try and hurt people Those are the kinds of people that are the cause of the knife laws nowadas:/

.....actually spinning is what i mean by hurting people......... I highly suggest you dont try that until you know how to use it correctly. Spinning is basically useless unless you know defense or a double edge karambit which is an advance technique so do not try it. Avoid doing "ufo spins."If you want, I can get on tinychat sunday or next week and show you how to properly spin. We had a mall ninja once stab a girl in the leg, he asked to see one of our karambits and tried to spin it and did it incorrectly and tore up the calf of the girl with him. Do not attempt stupid stuff with a karambit. You should at least learn how to do basics before you try to do flashy stuff.

Spinning has no practical use besides some advanced techniques, and most of those apply to double edged karambits. Just practice before you try to compete in the olympics

You can purchase a smith and Wesson karambit for about 25$, not the best, but you could still do some serious damage with even a small amount of training. As for a wave feature, you could attach a zip tie to the opening hole, or grind a piece of the blade in order to wave it. It's not hard to do, and it's a 25$ knife, so you don't have to worry about making a mistake

You don't need to wave the boker karambit either. Try the 5.11. Good steel and hang and if Charlie mike does his wave, boom faster then an auto
