karambit vs balisong knife

Karambits, balisongs, and daggers are the black rifles of the knife world. People are not interested in the technical specs. All they see is 'a sword ohmai gawd'. Some jurisdictions specifically take issue with them. Other times it is just the people around you judging you.

But with karambits, all the "regular folks" seem to see is a small knife.
I used mine to cut the tags off the gloves I had just bought, sitting at a table at a Tim Horton's at Devonshire mall (a mall with over a million square feet of retail space; not small).
The people at the table looked over, didn't care, and kept drinking their coffee.

Of course, I was using it for regular knife stuff, not playing ninja marauder teenager, spinning it like a freak.

Karambits (fixed blade or waved ones) are much easier to use in a rush, you don't want to be fumbling around with a balisong if you need to use it quickly. I've had several balisongs as a kid, not for self-defense but for utility (and mostly for show), they all ended up on a shelf after I cut myself for the n-th time while flipping it open.

If you don't want to use deadly force, a Bali might work better as a yaharwa stick in some cases.
