Karda Question

I've always longed for another 3 finger Karda. I sold a scandi version hoping to pick up a convex Karda. I wish I had kept the scandi. That is the perfect EDC!

I am really unsure how I want to go about this. She is familiar with the Hiking Buddy model, and familiar with the EDK. In watching her use them, she definitely has better control with the EDK, as one would expect. I was thinking that the 3F Karda may be better under her coat for a couple of reasons...one less of a foot print, and two less mass to make the knife leave the sheath (since it will be out of sight under her coat) with all of her flailing about being a kid. But after some observations yesterday, and even though the handle of the EDK is a hair long for her bare hand just yet and she has some room to grow with it, in her gloved hands the EDK may well be easier for her to control. And in this weather the gloves are very important...hell I abhor gloves, and I was loving mine yesterday. So, perhaps I need to focus on a better carry option for the EDK for her for the winter BUT I have wanted a lightweight and thin, SS 3F Karda since I handled a skeletonized one at Blade a few years back. So, worse thing that happens is I end up with a knife I want if it doesn't work for her, best case is I have a knife to loan her on our winter outings and a FFK that I can carry more discretely on a belt under my shirt tail or whatever, when out and about in urban areas like the zoo. Normally I prefer solid pins on knives, but this is one case where I think 1/8 tapered, high convex, with hollow pins like the one Icy has would work perfect for multiple roles. I just need to sort out a carry method I am comfortable with for her this time of year.

Cute pics Mist. I have 4 daughters. Oldest leaving for boot camp in a couple of weeks (air traffic controler) and the youngest just turned 1.

I have given some thought to equipping my girls with knives, but I'm pretty unsure about it. They all have SAKs put away until they get a bit older. Is a knife something you only let her have under supervision, or are circumstances such that she can handle it when you're not there to guide?

The 3f Karda seems like a great choice for a young'n. I mean there doesn't seem like a way to make it better for the job. Well, without trying it to fit anyway.

i think whatever "daddy" gives her will work

she obviously like to do the stuff you like to do

I don't have a postage scale at my house but I do have the Burlap EDKarda I posted on the two-for-tuesday and that thing is a feather. It's 1/8th tapered and NOTICEABLY lighter than my 3/32nd skeletonized hiking buddy. More than that most of the weight is up front, so if she wore it on a neck sheath, it'd sit comfortably and safely in the sheath. No way this thing tips or bumbles around once it's in it's sheath (like handle heavy knives).

You really notice it when you look down at the spine. The Karda (or perhaps just my karda) is maybe half as thick as the hiking buddy handle, scale to scale. Just super thin. my toothbrush is just a hair thicker.

its a bit overcast & late

but is this the pic you were looking for mist?

That works just fine man, thank you. If you find yourself bored tomorrow and wanting to practice more you could do the same shot with the Hiking Buddy included :) I know exactly how the HB fites her hand.

Can you all stop this? Now I need a Karda as well!!!!

I think we should have a request thread for Andy so he knows what we are hoping for

here ya go

the handle on the runt is 2-tone because the leather sheath soaks the oil outta it

I was thinking the same, although there are threads where people write what they'd like, a "hey Andy, I'll buy xxxx if you made one" thread does not. I think that doesn't exist because it's too closely related to taking custom orders. Might be wrong though. Seems like FF wants to make what they want to make and there's nothing wrong with that. While I'd dig a carver (or other disco'd FF), I also appreciate the variety, and indeed, rarity, of certain models.

I like the better grab it while you can aspect. :)

I was thinking more of a poll of your next three purchases.... Just the blade style then the handles can be a surprise just to give him a better idea of the market....I am only thinking about Andy for sure!

Sorry I keep hijacking threads...I'll try to stop doing that!
