These are blocks of Karelian Birch that were sent to me from Russia. I just got them back from getting stabilized by K&G.
Karelian Birch was used to make the second to last of the Faberge Eggs. It was intended for Russian Tsar Nicholas II.
Here is a link to an article about the Karelian Birch Egg.

This is beautiful wood with very unusual figure. When fine sanded and polished this wood looks almost like translucent amber.
I just finished adding these to the Stabilized Wood Blocks section of our web store.
Prices will range from $45 to about $65 for the very best blocks.

The group photo looks oranger than the blocks are in person.
Here is a more true to color photo.

A little late to this party.. Love this wood, just wish it was a little wider than 1 5/8".

With the Birch I am getting from Russia it is already pre-cut into blocks. Planks would have a lot of waste and shipping is very very expensive.
So.....I take what I can get.
Don't get me wrong. I am both grateful and excited about being able to get this wood. But you probably won't be seeing it on any big bowies or fighters.

Seems like most of the handle material suppliers in Europe cut their blocks this size and smaller.
