Bob Burgee of EDGES2, Inc. has added aluminum training knives for the Bob Kasper designed Crawford Kasper Fighting Folder and the Polkowski Scorpion to his product line.

I just put in my order for two KFF trainers (standard length blade and sub 3" blade).

You can see the trainers on both Bob Kasper's website and Bob Burgee's.

For the EDGES2 website click on the "**NEW** Custom Lines" option and follow the Kasper options.

Axel, thanks for the info! But the edges2 web was connection refused. What are the price ranges? Thanks.

I believe the address is right, but the site is down (temporarily, I hope).

BTW, do you guys know if B. Burgee (or anyone else for that matter) offers a training version of the AFCK?

The EDGES2 website works for me.

Prices for the trainers (S&H not included) vary by grade:

Economy 19.95
Basic 29.95
Standard 69.95
Deluxe 89.95

I went for the Standard grade which has micarta scales, hollow grind and a satin finish.

The deluxe version adds a mirror finish.

Economy has a rubber handle, satin finish and no grind.

Basic adds a hollow grind.

Bob will only do a patented design if he has permission from the patent holder, so I doubt that he would do an AFCK trainer without written permission. He may be able to make one fairly similar to an AFCK without violating any patents.

I have an all aluminum trainer for the AFCK made by one of Kelly Worden's students. He has not answered my mail recently so I don't know if he is still making them.

Axel,

Thanks for the info bro! I'm gonna put in an order for a standard tomorrow...do you happen to know what the delivery time is? I needs my trainer now!

Everything that Mr. G said. I knew if I waited a decent trainer would come out.

Axel, when's the Gaunt coming buddy?

You're welcome all.

MrG, Bob Burgee e-mailed me that it would be a couple of weeks for delivery. I hope that he doesn't get bogged down with orders and end up delaying my order.

I'm still waiting on a Standard Fighter which I ordered from him.

Smoke, my Gaunt, Gaunt trainer and Scorpion trainer are due from Al P. in August.

I hate waiting.

They look great!

I have one on order to, it is a basic model. I dont have a Crawford KFF, but I will buy the CRKT version when it comes out.
It would be really interesting if you and everyone else how has the real thing would make an comparising.
Do you have any pictures of your KFF's, to post or e-mail me ? It would be fun to see the folding trainer and the sub 3" bladed ones. Yes I've been lurking here a while.

Till next time

CeeJay,

Yup those are mine. Bob Burgee just e-mailed me that he had put them on his site. UPS tried to deliver them today, but I wasn't home. I'll have to wait until Monday to get my hands on them.

I'll let you know how they match up with my real knives. I have scanned images of my KFFs before, but I had trouble e-mailing them. I may need to use a lower resolution so that the file isn't so big.

If anyone can give me some technical assistance on how I can send my scanned image via e-mail, I'll give it another try.

Axel

Axel,

Let us know how those trainers turn out. I was looking at them and than at the CRK&T KFF. I am leaning towards the latter with a ground down edge because it would allow training with a folder rather than FB.

Either way, there seems to be a wait.

Axel,

Bummer that you have to wait until Monday, it's gonna be a long weekend.

I will try to get some info why you have trouble sending those images.

Sing.. agreed! Actually to tell you the truth if Edges2 were to find out about his reputation there might be some bribery cause in many ways Axel can make a dozen more sales just like *that*. THen again the CRKT KFF is coming up.. I will wait for Axels review about his blunted CRKT KFF vs his edges trainer.

I may have to buy a CRK&T KFF just so I can dull it down to test out the LAWKS feature.

It looks promising.

Axel

Sniperman,

If you take a gander at the date of my post, you'll see that I ordered my trainers a month ago! SOB!!

Where oh where are you, my lovely trainers? (Should be getting them this week
wink.gif
) What I've been using is my own homemade KFF trainer, and you know what?

It SUCKS!!!!!

I took a piece of the worst wood you can find, traced an outline of my KFF, cut it out very badly, and then wrapped it all up with foam and duct tape. Looks like a piece of wood wrapped with foam and duct tape.
biggrin.gif

I showed it to my friends and they told me I should throw it out! Jeez...

Axel,

Doesn't that LAWKS thing look like it'll get in the way when you have a saber grip on the knife? It's still bothering me...I wonder if anyone out there has handled one? What's the deal???

MrG,

Yeah, the LAWKS is right on the upper right side of the thumb ramp. I imagine that you can place your thumb on top of it for the saber grip. Much like with the Gerber Covert's safety.

I haven't had a chance to handle one yet, but I would guess that it works okay or Bob Kasper wouldn't have given his permission to put it there.

Of couse, I use predominantly a natural grip with the KFF so it doesn't bother me that much.

Axel

Whoops!! Silly me.. I am sure you've been assaulting your honey bunny a long time with that wooden KFF for a long time MrG
wink.gif
hey did you get any new Hossoms btw? Hnn irrelevant...

I received my EDGES2 Kasper trainers on Monday and have been able to give them a decent workout on my heavy bag outfitted with arm extensions. The trainers are great! The handle and blade profiles very closely match the real KFFs. Impact training on my bag, showed me that the EDGES trainers provide a very similar feel to my Crawford Trainer KFF.

Bob Burgee uses a very thick aluminum stock which he then bevels on the trainer. This still leaves a thick tip which will not puncture my heavy bag.

My KFFs are currently being gun checkered so I don't have them here for a direct comparison, but the handle of the EDGES2 version seems a little bit thinner than the real version. This would make sense since Bob Burgee used Bob Kasper's Ti KFF as the template. The Ti KFF is thinner than the micarta KFFs.

The EDGES2 micarta is polished versus the textured scales on the Crawford KFFs. Due to the use of aluminum, they are also a bit lighter than the real KFFs. The trainers also do not have thumb notches, but you can still effectively train snap cuts by placing your thumb on the thumb ramp. These differences don't affect the overall feel versus the KFF, and I heartily recommend them to those who carry KFFs.

These trainers have the advantage over a dulled down CRKT Crawford/Kasper if you plan to use them for impact training or with a live partner. A dulled down CRKT KFF would still have a thin tip which could still penetrate with a relatively low level of force.

If you want a trainer to practice draws without the chance of accidently cutting yourself, then a dulled down CRKT KFF would be an excellent idea.
