Katzbalger : a strange sword ?

@ horseclover : thanks for that very interesting information. It actually looks like swords went back to pointier when the fluted armours evolved to a new, sleeker design.
 
it makes one wonder how fast things changed, and how many sets of armor and blades were changed and adapted over time. Yes there are representative samples, but I wonder if between battles subtle changes were made, or was it more of a large leap to an advantage, then a large equalizing leap the other way? I mean I have an idea of how things go, but its really hard to wrap my head around a few hundred years of history and figure out the actual pace of change.
 
While not battle to battle in one annum, one sees swords change century to century and sometimes decade to decade (18th and 19th centuries especially).
