kayak camping

i want to try some new to me outdoor sports this summer. being that swimming is one of my favorite summer pastimes i figures kayaking and camping on the water would be pretty cool. i have only canoed and never kayaked. any kayakers have tips? or know of a good (cheaper better of course) beginner kayak? im open to any style, but sit-a-top looked interesting. really just fishing for any info. thanks- CB

It's better to find an outfitter that let's you try out the kayak. For kayaks (more so than canoes), it is best to try out a few to see 'how they fit'. You should be able to get a pretty good starter touring kayak for $500-$1000.
