kayak knife question-the hunt continues

Something else I've read about...
Some folks will have a sheath made for one of the Spyderco H1 folders as though it's a fixed blade.
Seems like there's a picture on here somewhere, but I wouldn't have a clue which search string to use.

Mind if I jump in on this? I'm considering a kayak knife (saltwater) as well and currently just using disposable cheapies from the impulse shelf at the local bait and tackle. Any comments on how secure the sheaths are for some knives? let's say the three most referenced - Gerber River Knife, Benchmade 110H20, Spyderco Aqua Salt.

The Gerber sheath leaves a lot to be desired. According to Mike Sastre, he's made a lot of replacement sheaths for the Gerber River Knife.
The Spyderco sheath, I don't know much about (yet). Retention seems fine, but I have read that the FRN will dull the edge if you don't sheath the knife carefully.
The Benchmade sheath is excellent and has a secondary locking mechanism/lever.

Just to add, I do have a Gerber River Knife.
Haven't seen fit to use it because the Benchmade is always on my PFD.

If you're very astute and noticed the flip-flop on my Benchmade shields, it's because they fell out and I had to epoxy them back in. :p

Hey Guyon, I'm not a member of any kayak group. I have not tried fishing from my kayak, just exploring. Of the knives you show I like the Benchmade. I will probably stick with my Salt and D-2 Rat 3. The Rat's blade is coated and will not melt in water. I operate in fresh water unless I'm in Fla on vacation.

Roger that. I just know that the GKF group used to do a yearly trip down to Cape San Blas.
Check 'em out some time. Good bunch of guys, and they catch some nice striped bass on Lanier.
Unlike some groups, they don't try to keep fishing reports and tips a secret. Very generous bunch.
I'm on the forum, but I haven't posted in a long time.
