Kayaking Knife

I don't kayak whitewater, though it's something I'd like to learn in the next couple of years. My kayaking is limited to recreational floats (2 top kayaks mainly) and fishing (bottom green yak mainly).

Like Mike and IUKE12, I do keep a folder on my PFD, a Spyderco Salt Rescue. However, this thread has given me a little bit of pause, as I do sometimes run the occasional light rapids (class II water) as well as spots in rivers with strainers. I do like the idea of simply making a sheath for it in the open position, effectively transforming deployment into a fixed-blade deployment.

I'm curious about that Benchmade H20. It didn't used to be made in H1, did it? Are all current production versions in H1? I recall posting about this knife a good while back, but I never pulled the trigger on one of them.

If you're running fast water a fixed blade makes sense. The folder works well for me because I do nothing but sea kayaking, long 20 to 30 mile hauls in a boat close to 18 feet in length. Entirely different animal than a white water craft. I don't capsize unless I want to, which I ocasionally do for rolling practice. Nice boats there Guyon:thumbup:

If one can't decide between a fix blade or folder........................GET BOTH! Then your covered.
