KAYAKING WITH HUMPBACKS this morning. Video!

Hey all, I guess this should really go in the "salt" thread, but I thought this one deserved its own place. I went out this morning and the fish were biting again. Even better, they were hitting top water lures which is always fun. Anyway, I saw a couple of humpbacks early about 200 yards away. That's a relatively common occurrence here so I didn't pay much attention. Well, about an hour later, two of them came up right next to me and just sat there on the surface. I paddled my kayak within 10 feet of them and they pretty much ignored me. After about 10 minutes, I finally worked up the courage to jump in. Man, I should have brought a mask!! I could see outlines, but the water wasnt crystal clear so I couldn't see that much. It was a really cool experience. I've seen them fishing and surfing tons of times, but NEVER this close! I am going to try to post the video that I took. Hope it works.

If that doesn't work, here's a link to it until someone can show me how to include the video in the thread.

Man, this sucks! It's a cool video. How do I post it?? I tried using photobucket like I do with my photos...that doesn't work? Can anyone tell me how to make the video show up in the thread like I see on here sometimes?

Show off ;)

Kidding aside, I bet that was an awesome experience. Color me jealous.

Were that me in the kayak, the sheer amount of fecal matter coming out of me would have sunk the kayak.

Umm, I don't know if you noticed but my voice was a littlr high-pitched. Hehe. And that's after I had already been in the water with them!! You should see the video where I'm trying to work up the courage to jump in! ;)

To post the video you click the little icon at the top of the comment field that looks like a piece of film, then paste the link.

Lol, I was kind of scared I won't lie. It was so much bigger than it looked in that video. I looked them up. 50ft long and 80,000 pounds. That will make a man feel small. ;).

oh no, i'm with ya buddy. i just could relate to the commentary. loved it. "i'm scared."....followed by laughter. that's the best. that sh@t's real! :D

That's amazing! I was on a dive boat heading out of Lahina, Maui and a mom and her calf were being chased by a male and all three swam right under our boat. Like just barely cleared the bottom of the boat. It was mind blowing how big they were just watching it swim under the boat. Kind of reminded me of the opening of Star Wars where that space ship just kept going and going. Unfortunately with all the other boat traffic and everything we couldn't jump in with them. That's an amazing experience you got to have S.G. thanks for sharing!

Beyond cool, thanks for the video. I suspect big doesn't begin to describe their size...

Spectacular!

I was lucky enough to see a couple earlier this year while fishing the ningaloo reef in north western australia - looked huge from about 50 metres away so cant imagine how monsterous they look up close...

Btw you have big balls getting in the water!
