First, here is a Becker at the lake.
The lake is where Beckerheads sometimes kayak.

Next, it sounds like the Moose man is started to get "Plastic Navy Fever."
So I thought I'd post up the boats I have, being a kayak enabler and all.
I have a couple of smaller, ~10' recreational yaks. Both can be set up to fish.

Here's one, a Wilderness Pamlico. I've rigged it with a Harmony Dashboard, a RAM rod holder, anchor troller, rear rod holders, and paddle keepers.

I also have a Perception Swifty with dashboard (that I shortened) and a RAM holder. I also added some paddle keepers after this picture.

For lake fishing, I've got an Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 Angler. Lots of mods and add-ons here.

And finally, for touring and speed, I have a Perception Essence 16.5' sea kayak.

Moose, here are those two kayak fishing forums where I used to be active.
As close as you are to the 404 (Atlanta), you could easily slip down now and then to fish with the guys at GKF. They're a good bunch.

Guyon,
When I grow up I want to be just like you!...;)

Damn.

:D

I went by Dick's, like you said. Plastic Navy fever. Yup. Getting there.

Damn, I mean Damn!

what great looking rigs you have

I bet you turn some heads with that Ocean Kayak

Excellent, I love fishing...

Some damn nice set-ups you got there Guyon...

Wow, I've been on the fence about getting a kayak for a while, but I think this just pushed me over the edge!

Nice rigs! All I've got are two simple Old Towns since all I do is kayak on lakes. Sure do love 'em though.

Those wiper on the front or your kayak?

Those fish are one of my favorite spring catching fish, one night I caught about 20 in 2 hours, they were boiling all over and damn they love to strip line.....

Guyon, you just made me want to get me a Kayak! The Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 Angler looks the business

Whats the difference, if any, between ocean and lake kayaks? It seems the ocean ones are thinner and sleeker built.

On any kind of flatwater or in the ocean, I'd want a longer boat with a hull better designed for speed.
Most lake fishermen/kayakers prefer boats in the 14' to 16' length because they're faster and they can cover more water.
IMO the 10' rec kayaks are okay for lakes, but they're really better suited to rivers and creeks unless you're just puttering around on flatwater.

Hit the lake early this a.m. in the sea kayak. Did a a little over 5 miles.

It looks like we paddled across land, but actually, the lake is so flooded right now, we were paddling over (normally dry) parts that were simply under water.

Guyon awesome set ups man (well excluding the ford):D

Since I've lived here I've wanted to take a trip and kayak down the Arkansas and see where it lets out at..

wants are always nice, but with a family needs come first:thumbup: so I guess I'll have to wait, besides my wife thinks its a crazy idea as I've never kayaked further then 5 miles round trip.., but I say....... Its all downhill :D

but someday, I'd like to take a solo voyage like that..

love your fishing rigs...

Pretty sure I'll never have the leisure time for such pursuits.

But it is fun watching Guyon do his thing.

There she sits, waiting for me to start being just a little bit less responsible every weekend...

Contact Richard Grove before you do it. I've got his phone number if you need it. The man knows all about long, solo voyages.

On July, 4, 2004, Richard was at his sister’s house for their July 4th party and he was joking with his nephew about a kayak that he owned, but rarely used. Richard remarked that if his nephew wasn’t going to use the kayak, then he would. When asked where he would paddle the kayak, he replied “Down the Chattahoochee” and his nephew replied “Well, how far?” and Richard replied “Hell, I don’t know…to the Gulf of Mexico!”.

Those that know Richard know that when he says he’s going to do something, he does it. He’s not one to let a challenge slide by. So he went home and logged on to the internet to find out how big the kayak was that he just stuck in his mouth. After some research, he calculated that this trip would take him approximately 30 days and in the end, he would paddle over 450 miles down the Chattahoochee to the Gulf of Mexico.

This page is intended to give a high level summary of each of Richard’s long kayaking trips (pre-2007).
[ADMIN EDIT: 2009: For better Google Earth Layer integration, we started using the EveryTrail website to track and share Richard’s trip. More people will be able to share his tracks this way.]
