Kayaks for Beckerheads

Well, I've been bitten, but I haven't made the purchase yet. I been looking real hard. So far, I have found 2 that I want and can afford. A F&S Eagle 12 for $500, and an Ocean Kayak Drifter 13' for $600. I was talking to another friend of mine that kayaks quite often, but doesn't fish, per se, but he was giving me the ins and outs for this area, and I have to say, I'm quite excited to take a few trips in the near future to test it out. If all things go well, I will be putting a Beckerhead sticker on my new kayak this summer. Wish me luck.

Moose, I don't fish out of mine much either but do a lot of long distance paddle/camping. I can tell you that it's about as much fun as you can have outdoors. I've got a QCC 500 17 foot kevlar, a WS Cape Horn, Cape Lookout, two 12 ft perceptions for creeks, a Mad River canoe and we just added two WS Tarpon sit on tops a month ago. If you go on one trip you are hooked beyond all reason. We need to get the Beckerhead paddlers together for a trip.

Here's the QCC and the Cape Horn

Yeah, TW, thats what I and my wife are afraid of. Liking it. I do like to fish, and this would add an option that I haven't had in a while. I'm really thinking, its easier to load and put in a kayak, than an 18' runabout with a V8 engine. Probably go faster, but what's speed when you're wanting to slow down and fish. :D

Great pix! I used to rent and sell the Ocean Kayak sit-on-top kayaks in the FL Keys. No longer own one but still have my wooden paddle :)

We got the Tarpons to fish out of and take weekend trips. If you're looking at one to primarily fish out of, I'd take a look at the sit on tops. Here's one rigged for fishing.

We picked up two new 2010 models for 600 apiece on sale here locally.

tradewater has a point about local sales. A friend down in Georgia has picked up several kayaks on the cheap via Craigslist.

The one thing I don't see on tradewater's boat above is tethers. My experience is that, if it isn't tied down or if it doesn't float, it'll eventually find the bottom of the lake.

Moose, if you have questions about the Drifter, contact Randy Vining down at GKF: http://georgiariverpirate.com/index.html

The Drifter is a favorite river boat of his, though he's a little biased. I believe he's also on the Ocean Kayak Pro Staff.

Still, he's been doing the river fishing thing for years, and he's a great resource as far as choices and rigging.

It's not my boat. It's just an example of a SOT rigged for fishing that I snagged off of google. We haven't even taken the plastic off of our Tarpons yet.:D

I had a Tarpon 120 but I sold it and picked up a Ride 135...love this thing!

I installed a child seat in the rear compartment. My daughter loves it!

I'm thinking seriously about a tandem. My son is getting almost big enough to have a kayak of his own, but there's still the matter of his younger sister.

Kayak Numero Cinco has joined the Biscuit clan.
I picked up this kid's kayak for my son today.
It's made for children 5+ and up to 130 lbs.
It came with an appropriate sized paddle.

I had a spare Ocean Kayak seat laying around, so back support is covered.
I might cut a small piece of blue closed-cell foam pad and put underneath it for more padding.

Give me a couple of weeks, and I'll have it rigged out similar to this one.

That's an awesome little boat! I've got a couple of grandkids that would love that. Any way you could PM me where you snagged that?

How us flatland hillbillies haul our boats.

I have a Old town Otter I take out often. Not a nice as your rig but my kids and I like it. It's very light and easy to launch any place.

I've got the Old Town Otter also. One of my local trips is at a corp of engineers park. I drag it over 3/4 a mile through grassy trails to Allatoona Creek. From there it's a series of canals off the creek and a lake. Cannot wait to hit the salt marshes in Fla next week!

You look real friendly. :D
Thanks, I'm a 3rd grade teacher. No, really though I'd just about dumped it trying to keep my beer from spilling(priorities! ) and my buddy was giving me crap for it, so he received the pleasantry.
