are there any cheaper/foreign made alternatives with the same functionality and nema 4 enclosure? i want to be able to run jumpers, have fwd/rev, a simple speed adj knob, and as user friendly and ready to rock and roll out of the box.

thanks for the reply, i have looked at the teco stuff and the sites like automationdirect, but havent found anything comparable to the 27-d. i cant believe taiwan or china doesnt make enclosed drives with switches and knobs instead of a keypad. seems like there needs to be some competition in that niche market. i can ALMOST understand the high cost of contact wheels, but craftsmen around the world use all types of equipment that benefit from variable speed.

You can ad switches and knobs to those programmable models

But it might take you the rest of your life to read and understand those manuals on how to wire and program it.

I just got a Teco off of ebay with a 3 phase 1hp motor for about $280 shipped. I'm going to mount the Teco in an ammo can & put some sort of filters on it, probably some of the 3M respirator filters to allow it to vent. I'll hook up a remote speed & on/off controls & place them near the grinder, this should keep the grinding particulates out of the electronics of my Teco.

Mike-E, I have three KBAC 27-d drives and they all cost different amounts ...the last one was the cheapest. Consider shopping real hard for the KBAC drive. I have seen them as cheap as $357. I think I paid $370 for the last one including shipping and an on/off switch installed. If you buy something a little cheaper you may regret it later. KBAC drives are dependable and high quality. Just my opinion again. Larry
