Keating Chinook Concept Knife

I see some of the value of the deep back swedge(I can't fully appreciate it yet, due to my particular training), and am glad to see it there, and personally think it looks fine. I just hope they will ship noticably unsharpend when produced, for those of us who live in double edge unfriendly jurisdictions.

And a sharpened top edge in a folder, outside the handle in the folded condition, would be tempting fate, even if it's that radical concave clip configuration.

Looks to be a good reverse grip fighter.

The clip would only need to be swedged. I'd definitely shy away if it were sharpened, considering how much is exposed.

I like the heft of a nice, thick, deep bellied knife like this appears to be.

Ah Mr. Keating loves his Bowies.

I'm not fond of the clip, you could put 5 screws and still looks brittle. Simply, the clip isn't wide enough.

I see this as more of a wide stroke fighter more than a rev grip fighter or back cutter. More depth of cut via more belly. I would like it w/ a more pronounced point for utility.

Count me in the "I like it!" camp, too. Drop the point just a bit and this knife definitly has possibilities. Hey guys, "Rhino" is a good name for this blade. It looks as tough and formidable as a Rhino. The guard is a big selling point for me. Protect those pinkies!!

I saw another version of this knife in Keating's On-Line magazine. It had a rolling lock and what appeared to be a slightly slimmer blade profile.

Sal, I'll take either one, which do you think it will be?

I think the upswept point will do just fine. Folders in general are safer off cutting or slashing(in defensive applications) with thrusting kept to a minimum. I think this knife maximizes it's strength as a folder(slashing) by compromising it's weakness as a folder(thrusting). I have done some thrust drilling on light(cardboard) to medium targets(phone books) with an upswept blade(fixed blade) and though not optimized for the thrust, it offered as much as a knife such as the Chinook would need(IMHO).

I like it! Move the hole back a little, keep the crows beak, put some thumb serrations above the openeing hole, and make mine G-10. I'll buy one.
