thank you everyone for the kind thoughts. flying out early tomorrow morning.
a little history:
she owns a farm on maui, in the town of kula. she and my grandfather farmed carnations for use in flower leis.
my grandfather passed in 1985 following a brain tumor and successful surgery to remove it. he lived several months after surgery.
she has three children, my father is the middle child, with an older brother and younger sister.
she has five grandchildren, i am the second oldest, my cousin is a few months older than i.
she remained active with her community group for the past several years, and was always in good health. last year she fell and injured her back, and never fully recovered, though still enjoyed the company of her group and was as active as her body allowed.
i tried to correspond with her regularly, though of late she was unable to write back in any length.
though a bit distant, as are many members of my father's family, we always knew she loved us, even if she had difficulty showing it.
she will be remembered and missed.
