Keep my new BM42?

This is my first posting. I just received my new BM-42, and I have a couple of complaints. Aside from a blade that is less than razor sharp (however, watch that tip!), the latch is poorly shaped, and the counter-sinking shows poor QC (irregular shaped holes, some round, some oval). Moreover, the handles have a couple of irregularities in the blade channel, and the small holes have small bits of TI left undrilled.

While I am not a serious collector, I am very particular about things (especially a $130 knife). Should I return it the mail order store, contact Benchmade, or keep it? I will most likely want to use it for flipping, but not on a daily basis. Your collective counsel is appreciated in advance.

Its too bad that such a great knife has QC problems. Perhaps I shoud just keep it as a use/carry, and get a new model for collecting when quality improves? After waiting this long, I do not want to give my MB42 up, even for a day!

So far I think all of the regular production have had problems, I know mine does, a lot of the people on this forum's 42's have defaults. It's too bad too, even the sheath sucks @$$, it is a fantastic balisong though and I wouldn't ever give mine up. Now that you are confused I think I'll let you go.

ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT, I am just a baby. The knife is great, flips like a dream. Besides, why comlain about the small things. I was just curious if others had similar experiences. Are the TI handles cast, and is that the reason for small imperfections (in the casting process, vs. a craftman drilling holes)? Being that I can not now live without my new best friend, I will learn to love, small flaws and all!

The handles are cast. Even my earlier 44's, 45's, etc..., with cast steel handles, have imperfections. That is the difference between a $130 bali and a $$$$ custom...

Its like you have your own custom

...you should be happy, you don't have mine. I have a MISDRILL which they tried to cover up, but didn't do a good job doing, a distorted latch, uneven handles... talk about disapointed. Hey my knife's sharp...after I sharpened it

ubt after all that I still kept it..builds character.-g

Thanks, everybody. I did not want to be anal -- I just want the Balisong of my dreams, the one that is unattainable and resides in the relm of Platonic forms. My BM 42 is great, a true beauty that functions perfectly. I look forward to learning the best way to care for it -- this forum is a great place to start. I have read many of the tutorials on sharpening. Which is the best bet for beginners? Also, how long will the pins last before the knife becomes a problem. Is there anything I can do (other than tape, lub, and clean) to keep the knife in great shape (other than putting it in a box -- No way, too much fun!

I justed recieved my M42, took less then a week to get from Northwest Cutlery. This is my second BALI-SONG USA. The M42 that I recieved is as sharp as a razor and the fit and finish are what I expected. Maybe some of the early released knives were pushed out the door too fast. As for the belt case, Benchmade should offer a case that fits the knife on a exchange basis.

what was ai gonna say?? Oh yeah.. mine came with latch deformalities too.. DAMN YOU MALASIAN SLAVES IN NEBRASKA!! ahem.. anyways I sent it back to Bm since I can't stand it. But it is finally back - I don't think you can send it back to your inteernet dealer as most of them are sold out. but the turnaround time was nototoo bad.,. 2weeks I htink.
