keeping a pocket knife in my car question.

+1 on Renaissance wax, it's used by museums so should not discolor or harm any items, I use it in some non-stainless blades I keep on display, it keeps rust from forming also brass from tarnishing. The tin I bought will last me for many years, good investment.

For a car blade I think the heat/cold changes would affect the horn more than the steel of that knife.

The heat that the inside of a car reaches, cannot harm the heat treat on a knife blade. Actually the NHTSA did tests and the temperature of cars can reach 131° F - 172° F (55° C – 78° C). That's hot as heck but not hot enough to damage anything on your knife. Maybe if a knife has some adhesive holding something on it could make it get loose but beyond that you have nothing to worry about.

I keep a Spyderco 79mm Orange Rescue in my car all year long and it has never been affected.

I save all the little packages that come with electronics and re-use them in the containers (3-4 in each) I store my collection knives in. About every 3 - 4 months, I rotate them out and reactivate the used packages, and store them in ziplock bags until I need another one. Reactivation is done by putting them on a cookie sheet in the oven and THEN bring the oven to around 220degF for a couple of hours.

Or you can just put some rice in a piece of mesh and tie it off if you're worried about moisture in the zip lock. It's pretty much permanent.

Rice will fix a lot of flooded cell phones too.

I wouldn't leave it in the car, it's far too risky to subject your knife to such extremes as the inside of your automobile sees. I personally keep my knife collection in a climate controlled safety deposit box at the bank.

^ this kind of makes me sad how do you fondle and use your knives if they are at the bank. But I'm sure your knives are in much nicer condition than mine and will hold there value well. To each his own I guess .
