Keeping bolsters and shields nice and shiny

That's what I have done , but I no longer care and have dulled the bolsters on a knife or two with scotch brite or steel wool.
YEP! I LOVE the patina on my steel bolstered Barlow and even enjoy the tarnish a brass bolster can put on but I have a small handful of knives that I just cant let get that way and a quick rub on the strop when Im tuning the blades up keeps them looking good. It especially works on brass where nickel silver often needs something with a bit more oomph if you want that chrome reflection. I have a kitchen knife I made with brass bolsters and it gets the green scotch brite treatement every wash and it keeps it looking great. Not mirror polished like when I first finished it but I like the satin clean look better on it anyways.
