Ok I put my scales on with 2 pins to keep it in place. After beating on it a bit, The scales have come loose. I decided since I was going to stan the handles, I could just jbweld the heck out of the handle and blade. will this keep it in place? after it hardens I will remove the jb from the flat handle sides, and stain the handles.

Did you use some sort of epoxy? Pins by themselves rarely are enough to do the job, not to mention no sealing of the area between the tang and scales. That's not a place you want moisture to be able to accumulate. Instead of JBweld, try a quality 2 part epoxy.

Properly pinned handles should not come loose under knife conditions, including banging around, dropping and occasional beating. If you need glue for anything other than a moisture barrier on a full tang knife then construction methods should be re-examined. Either that or I need to find a way to make epoxy work with my screw constructed knives.

JB Weld will work very well for you application, but it will most likely leave a visible line between the scale and tang. If you're OK with that, the glue is very good.

True, if you're using a screw or peened pin/flared tube construction. For mosaic pins and non-flaired pins or tubing, you gotta have the epoxy (or something similar). I do agree that corby bolts offer superior construction, but I still like the epoxy for everything except a full takedown construction for increased strength and as a moisture barrier.

i have seen a site where Nick Wheeler shows how he puts scales on a full tang knife by drilling a bunch of small shallow holes on the insides of the tang to form epoxy rivets along with pins to make sure the handle doesnt come loose. drill the epoxy holes about 1/4" from the edge of the scale so you dont get a hole showing on the side. google neck knife scales and nick wheeler
