I have experience with drop point v-grind knives, and I can get them razor sharp. However I have an Emerson Commander on its way and I was wondering if anyone has good freehand experience with this style of knife. By the way I also have a lot of experience with the 154cm so that shouldn't be a problem.

I currently use Japanese waters stones.

Thanks,
Dalton

You can change it through post edit I believe.

Round the corner of your waterstone and use edge trailing strokes. You only need about a 1/4in rounding of the edge. EKI 154cm runs a bit softer so its pretty easy to sharpen.

When removing the burr the opposite side of the ground edge, should I angle it as close to 0 degrees as possible say like 5 degrees creating a micro-beveled chisel grind?

Yes, but just on your finest stone and keep the passes to a minimal. Truthfully more than two or three passes and you would be starting to over do it. Then switch back make two ore three more passes then strop on bare leather both back and front sides. Also keeping stropping to a minimal, too much stropping means you didn't do enough stone work.

Thanks for the info, now I'll just wait until it comes in and see what happens. Thanks man.
