If you store pictures on PhotoBucket . . . .

My PhotoBucket account just lost all its pictures.

There seems to be no customer service, just bots that say they cannot "recover" my account "automatically," which seeems to mean ever.

:o

Anything uploaded to them is so horribly diminished in quality, I still use photobucket but would never consider it "archival" or personal storage.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I use and recommend a redundant storage/backup system for personal files, an external hard drive enclosure and burned DVDs for storage.

A decent enclosure from Rosewill (model RX-358 V2 BLK ) is under $30. Blank DVDs are about 50 cents each.

Unpleasant news.

They seem to be having issues as well: often takes ages to log in, can't get at stuff and sometimes can't log out....sinister.

I've had experiences with the rotation of images taking hours or even overnight to take affect lately, starting to worry about stability of the site. I'm looking at other sites.

There are several option for hosting photos, none of them would be as ideal as having a personal server. However, there is google, flikr, imgur, dropbox, and about another couple dozen.

I've hated Pbucket for a long time as it has only gotten worse with time IMO.

I fill up SD cards with camera pics, preferably 4GB max. When full they get put in a Ziploc baggy. The baggy goes on a shelf and gets forgotten about for a year or so. I finally got around to backing up all of em last night on my external hard drive... ;):foot:

I always thought Photobucket was inferior. PB keeps nuking pictures due to really low bandwidth thresholds, in addition to severely downgrading the quality of uploaded pictures.

You basically get what you pay for. Photobucket is free in essence. I pay for hosting but am quite satisfied. FotoTime. Not that expensive. I was referred by a well known photographer who frequents this forum and he was right.

I use photo bucket for posting pics in forums but for saving originals I use my laptop & google drive.

That's what I use. I have no complaints.

Imgur is great, however they cap at like 225 pics or something like that. Your hosted pictures don't disappear, but they get dropped so you can't access them. Only way around it is to find the pic and copy the link. You can pay money to uncap, but I hate monthly payments and their price is high unless you host a ton of pics.
