Keeping the Tradition and Dream Alive

I've long been known as a supporter of the ball-peen hammer.

Preferably to the temple.

Heh. My grandmother slept one of those big metal cop lights (it was her dad's) and a ball peen hammer against the bed. She had clumsy hands and kept getting slide-bite.

On the topic of bulkier kukri for western buyers, I am working with a Nepalese guy right now. Aside from the mustache, you could mistake him for one of the women. Eats like a bird, short, thin, small hands and feet. He's a hard worker, but I doubt he could lift a 35 kg case of beef on his own. I wrapped the handles of my knives because they felt so small, and I would hate to see the blade be any less durable, because when I depend on a tool I would prefer it be bulked closer to my limits than worry about its limits.

Great post, Karda
We will continue our Dharma path

What you say is very logical and I see that my thinking has been too narrow. I must remember what you typed here about HI's purpose and goals. The comments I have made don't jive with your companies mission which up to now I've misunderstood. So I will remember what you wrote Karda and state similar it in future projects I make so as not to disparage you, Yangdu, and the HI forum members.

I buy all my Kukris for "general use" being a type of traditionalist and had not considered the folks that use their Kukris for "Field Use". I do love the "classic" Kukri designs but I see now others (for their lifestyle) want a heavy duty version of the Kukri.

Himalayan Imports products are really, really good and getting more difficult to produce. So I do thank you very much and will support HI in future. Also, thanks to all of you guys for pulling your punches ;).

SweetCostarica,

I am with you. I love the traditional kukri. However I also love some of the big bad monsters that HI puts out. I don't know, I guess it would be nice to see something more traditional in the line up as well as the chunky beasts that most of us westerners have grown to love. Why not just add one more model?

Anttheknee I liked the Ugly Villagers Kukris Yangdu introduced about two months ago that a new HI Kami was making. Being a practical man I'm drawn more to this type because it is more of a all round tool. But again that's my preference and one I shouldn't impose on others.

These were soooo popular I missed buying one or two because they sold like hot cakes.
