Kelly Cupples

I'm speaking out of turn a little, since I haven't ordered from him, but I can tell you that Kelly is very highly-regarded around here. I'm sure some of his customers will chime in.

I am fairly sure that his steel is annealed. I just ordered some 1080 off him. Quick ship and nice guy to deal with. Orders over a $100.00 are free shipping which is a great benefit. Give him a call if you have any questions.

Do you guys recall the shipping price if I don't order $100 worth. I'm just a hobbyist and I really don't need that much. Thanks for the quick reply.

I dont think any of it is technically "annealed", Most of it is hot rolled stock. I could be wrong though. But having said that it is still soft enough to grind or file. Of course yo could anneal it yourself. You will have no worries ordering from him. I would also try to come up w/ the 100.00 order, Your going to use it eventually.

That will depend on what you order. If it fits in a flat-rate box that can help you out. Without knowing what you're ordering and where you are, it's impossible to say what the shipping would be.

Kelly is a top-notch guy to deal with though. I deal with him pretty regularly and he's always done right by me.

I have bought a large amount of steel from kelly and have nothing but good things to say about him. Kelly is right on about everything and you will not find an easier guy to deal with. However he dosen't sell stainless.

Yes it is Hot Rolled. I can tell you the one experience I had with Kelly. He sent me a list of steels along with prices. After a few questions through emails I made my order. I said I would send out a money order in four days (quickest I could get to post office). I mailed my $$ out on a thursday and my steel was at my house friday! He sent my order without even receiving my payment yet! Just a super great guy to deal with. He could not come more highly recommended.

Being in Hawaii the flat rate priority shipping boxes are a lifesaver. For $10 bucks postage you can get up to 70 lbs of material in a few days. The one caveat is the staff has to be under 12" long, which is no problem for a lot of knife making materials, such as steel. Kelly cut the stuff to length for me (as have many other folks) packaged it up in a wood lined flat rate box and shipped it on out. Just GREAT!!!

If you want CPM-D2, CPM-S30V or CPM-154 for blades, or stainless stock for pins and bolsters etc, check with Tracy and his crew at USAknifemaker. Great prices and astounding service.

I ordered two sticks of 1080 from Kelly, and the shipping was just about as much as the steel was. The free shipping over 100 is a good deal.

Anybody know if that email address is still good? I tried emailing him about a week and a half ago and haven't heard anything back yet.
I'll try again but I didn't want to be annoying, thought maybe he was on vacation or away.
Later,
Iz

Email address is good. I talked to him 3 days ago, he responded within a few hours, then I asked another question, and it took 3 days. Shipping for a 5' piece of steel was $27 for where I live, so I'm going to be spending $100 soon ;)

You can try calling kelly at 509-949-5231 I know for a fact that he has had a lot on his plate lately so try again he may have missed your e mail

I received my first order from Kelly a few weeks ago. I ordered some 1080 and before placing my order sent an email,

"I'm assuming the 1080 is hot rolled/not annealed?"

His response,
"That is correct and it is typically 36 HRc."

I can tell you that it cuts and files easily. And ditto what everyone else said, Kelly is fantastic to deal with.
