Started out the afternoon with a Tim Hortons Double double coffee, and two toasty bagels with cream cheese. Drove up the Sea to Sky hwy and hit my favorite logging road.

started with some photography of some plants, then broke out the GB axe, SY SOD and Emerson CQC16 and felled some willow poles for rustic furniture. Peeled the poles, staining my hands orange from the bark.

Used the GB ax to rough hew a short log. The log was white when i started but quickly turned orange as i chipped away. (no idea why? DOC CANADA can you explain?)

How i carry the GB small forest ax on my HSGI chest rig with Y harness:

its so comfortable, i can run with it and it does'nt flop around. To grab it i just reach over my shoulder and pull out the axe. The weight balance is perfect. Wore it all day long while hiking and did'nt break a sweat.

a quick drink of water and off i go:

videos gonna take awhile to upload.........sorry.....

but on with the day:
As i was driving up the steep road in the truck, a couple of hikers were walking down. I stopped on a level portion of the road and said hi. They glared at me and one said "WE WALKED UP, your cheating". I was a bit taken aback by their 'tude, but i countered by pulling out my Firewood Salvage permit for the Squamish forest district and waved it in their faces. MULTIPASS! i said, and then drove away laughing....

I got the super steep part of the road, parked the truck, chocked the wheels, gear in reverse and headed off down the road and trail for more chopping fun (and dinner too)

after dinner i slogged back up the hill and drove out of the area and back to the hwy. It started pouring rain, but it washed the mud off my truck.

Another great Sunday, away from the crap of the city

DS Tactical (aka Daves Surplus) here in New West BC Canada. The Y harness is form a milsurp store, it replaced the stock X harness of the HSGI Warlord V4 (see my post in Gadgets & Gear for more pics)

sorry for the delay on the videos...its taken two hours to upload a 5 min HD video to photobucket.....and i got 4 of them in total...

The more posts i see about the Kelly kettle the more i like it... Can you cook on top of it?? I seen a post of one where you can have a frying pan on top for cooking. That rig you are wearing seems to work realy good. How do you carry water with it?? or do you just collect some on the way??

yea KK makes a slip on attachment that accepts a small pot....but i tried it (a friends KK) and found it a bit unstable..... The KK though is one heck of a great setup though, you boil water using a tea candle, a bit of dried grass, leaves, twigs, the fuel requirements are very LOW. Of course that does'nt matter here in BC, there is so much deadfall around that one is NEVER without fuel. If one was in the city after an earthquake......and they had a KK, they could boil their water using anything (paper, candles, newsprints, twigs, leaves, etc etc etc etc)

the KK has a cork so you can fill it, cork it and carry it with you. There is so many streams in our area, that one only needs to walk a few minutes to find water.....if you were in a drier region you would have to pack water with you.

nope high speed direct cable connection, and the IPS is just down the street from me...... its photobucket thats the problem.................if i upload reg video (non HD) it takes abotu 2 minutes...soon as i try to upload HD it bogs down

I had a 5 min HD video uploading from 0400 hours this morning. As of now its 4% uploaded :grumpy:.....

love it! i grew up with axes, so its like an extension of my hand. I had another axe guy with a couple of days ago and he commented that i was cutting twice the amount of poles as he was with his large felling axe. "damn man that axe is fast"

Man that set up is fantastic. Now I want one. You are an excellent photographer too, the close up pics are impressive! Thanks for sharing...and for the laugh with the word MULTIPASS-I love that movie (Fifth Element with Bruce Willis).
