I've beentold that this is an unmarked Kelly Woodslasher, and most likely a Nicholas sheath (also unmarked). Please correct me if that's wrong!
I'm tempted to keep it myself, but I bought a set of 10 axes and I quite simply am not going to use this.
From the original owner I was told that it was bought at a hardware store in upstate NY in the 60s or 70s. The head says "A-31" and the top of the handle says "22 in.". There are light traces of text on the handle with the "wear eye protection" notice. Otherwise, unmarked. Oh, and the head seems to have originally been red, which you can see in some places still.
Beautiful patina on the handle, which is in excellent shape. Axe head has a good clean edge to it. Maybe not razor sharp, but it's ready to chop for sure. I think it'll sharpen up very nicely, but I haven't done a single thing to it myself (because if I start messing with it, I'll never let it go, lol).
Also includes a nice leather mask. Not original, but fits perfect. I hadn't seen this kind of design before either. Last summer, someone informed me this is an older Nicholas mask, but there are no markings on it.
$75 including shipping in the lower 48. If that's crazy, let me know, but I'm thinking shipping will be around $20.
It's a lovely axe and it's ready for another 50 years and beyond. It's a shame for it to sit in the garage any longer, so let's get this to a new home.
Here are some photos from last July, as they say, nothing's really chaged except the date.
