Ken Coats Spring failure (Broken again...)

I'm always amazed when I hear this kind of report. I can't imagine a knifemaker, that's still making knives, that wouldn't want to make it right. I'd work on finding some other way to make contact.

I've had one experience with a broken spring on a knife. It was made by Hiroaki Ohta. I sent him an email, he got back to me the same day, I sent the knife to Japan. It was repaired and returned, 14 days total.

I once sent a knife to Ken for repair and my experience was great. Got the knife back all fixed up in less than 10 days. It was a user and I never had another problem with the knife after that.

I am almost certain that there's a communication breakdown here somewhere. Ken stated in post #12 that there might be a problem with his email. As others have suggested, I recommend trying to obtain his phone number. I tried myself using "the White Pages" online but I'm not going to open an account just see his phone number.

The White Pages implies that there is 1 cell phone number for Ken Coats in Stevens Point, Wisconsin (that's him) but you have to have an account to see it. Try that if you haven't already.

Do you have a street address to drop him a card or letter? As he's a Knifemaker he has a membership here so can't you message him on that?

I it will end up good and you'll get the knife back and fixed, maybe try and phone him?

My first custom by Mike Alsdorf had broken spring, the breaking sound was so ugly and surprising. Anyway since he does not have an email, I sent him a letter but never heard from him.
Mike

Sorry to hear that!
Yeah hearing the backspring break is heart wrenching, especially hearing it break for a second time on the same knife...

I'm located in Australia unfortunately, so I can't call him. I ceased hearing from Ken since before I sent it off, so no confirmation that it even arrived

I've not got gold membership, so I don't think I can message him here. I'm assuming he wouldn't have a facebook page either, but that'd be the quickest.

Yeah it seems to just be a problem with his email address. I may have to find another way to contact him

Bummer. I've had a back spring snap on a Queen Gunboat. My favorite knife. They are out of business, so no returning for a fix....

Try to contact him on Instagram.

I read this thread and the other thread. The maker seems to be not constantly plugged into a computer.

I would make every effort to track down personal contact info and to pick up the the phone and contact him in yourself.

Phones inside Australia can dial out past the shoreline.
