Got off the phone a little while ago with Ken Coats whom many of you are probably getting familiar with by now from some of his offerings in the "custom folders for sale" area as well as on this forum.

Ken has posted several 4" jacks for sale over the past months which prompted me to contact him and ask about the possibility of his doing a two blade version based upon Case's 6292 Texas Jack pattern which (along with the smaller 6232 pattern) has become a favorite of mine for EDC.

Ken informed me that that very knife was in fact the basis of the single bladed jacks he was offering for sale. The knife he was using as a template, in fact, was a Case 4 Dot, 1976 version, carried by his father.

When Ken told me that he could do a two blade based upon the 6292 we were off and running.

I asked Ken to craft the blades from D2, use his own dyed and jigged bone (in his "winterbottom" style) and include a shield. I also asked Ken to modify the secondary "pen" blade with a hybrid pen/wharncliffe blade like on the current Case medium Texas Jack 6232 pattern.

I find that the hybrid pen/wharncliffe blade along with the clip master blade gives me the best attributes of a stockman knife in a two bladed jack.

Here are Ken's initial comments/specs:

Blade and Spring- D2, Hollow ground, 600grit hand finish.
Frame 416 ss milled from barstock, liners and bolsters integral.
Scales: Ken Coats dyed and jigged bone, its actually more of a Reddish Mahogany color than it looks in the photo.
Closed 4", Open 7 1/4", Back is flush in open, closed, and half stop positions
About a 6 on the pull open scale.
Sole Authorship --All parts made by me in my shop.
This was cooked up between Elliott and I in the last few months, the original pattern was a case Texas Jack from
1976 that my dad carried for a while. It was all in all a fun project.

I'm sure Ken will visit the thread and perhaps add more or answer any questions which may come up.

Anyway, here's a preview of the knife which Ken will be sending along tomorrow. Keep in mind that the actual color is more closely aligned with the deep red colored bone used by Case in the 70's. Hope you guys enjoy it!

Ken is working on another two blader that will be ready pretty soon. :D.

Congratulations to both of you!

Thanks, Darrell. I had discussed the idea of the flat/pinched bolsters with Ken based upon the original and also asked Ken to put a little swedge on the blades as well.

I can't wait to see what this baby looks and feels like.

I knew that was one of the Case model you liked, Elliott. I'm not at all surprised that you would commission a custom version with the touches you prefer and it appears that Ken has done a great job on it. It really is a nice looking knife. Well done Elliott & Ken.

Ken knocked it out of the park. I like seeing these patterns come to life in custom knifemakers' hands.

Congrats Ken and Elliott.

Nice rendition of the pattern! The Jigged bone is the icing on the cake; and D-2 flavored - My Fave!! Nice "cooking" guys.

Thanks, guys for all the good comments.

Charlie, my compliments to the "chef" as well. I was only the "waiter" (literally and figuratively). ;)

Prolly not but it left my hands at the post office about 20 min. ago.
Thanks for the comments guys.
Ken.

Yo Elliott & Ken,that looks freakin' really nice
But no one,no one, mentioned the shield ! Look at it ! & I know from my personal experience,Ken's shield work is Fantastic, like icing on the cake.
I picked up a single blade knife, like this (I think),in micarta recently, looking forward to getting it in as well.
Nice one! Ken & Eliott,
-Vince

Well thought out Elliott. Looks like Ken did a super job. Anxious to hear an in-hand report.

Congrats!

That is simply perfect. I have my 6292 in my pocket right now, and really like it, but would love to have that wharncliffe instead of the pen on it. Congratulations on a wonderful knife.

Nice nice folder. I love Ken's work so very much. I have one toothpick shawdow and have another Tear Drop Jack on order in a single blade Wharncliffe shape but just like the spear point models you see other than the blade diff. I look forward to it greatly!
Nice snag Blues. What a great folder that will be too. Ken's knives keep an edge a long time.

Looks like it has 'whittle with me on the back porch with the grandkids' written all over it to me!;)

What a fine lookin' folder that one is. I especially like the slight modification on the pen blade, and the whole package really comes together just right.

We're really lucky to have access to such gifted craftsmen as the knifemakers who build and share here on BF.

Congrats brotherman!
