Ken Erickson: "Humpback" Whittler

I'm really glad to see that there is this much interest in the "traditional" slipjoint and lockback patterns. I'll be happy to share as much as I can and if there is something of particular interest, please let me know. There are many with much more comprehensive collections and hopefully they'll be along to add to the journey.

The flip side is that I feel my old kinship for these wonderful forged fixed blades beginning to stir anew...that can only spell trouble...:p

Very nice!

I really like these custom "traditionals".

Kind regards,

Jos

This is one of the most difficult folders to make I know of. This build came out beautiful.

That is just an awesome folder, Elliott! Ken is so good at replicating old traditional patterns. Plus, as we can see from your post, he is not afraid to take on a challenge.

The main blade has been called a saber blade. I have seen some old Norfolk Whittlers in Levine's older books that list a similar blade as saber, including the Remington. Another was on a Jos. Rogers whittler. I guess it would be considered a saber grind on a varient of a tobacco or cotton sampler profile? Whatever it is, I like it!!

Great thread! Love to see Ken's work.

It a jewel Elliot. I've been staring at these pictures with burning jealousy. Love that batmanny shield.

Do you have any other custom split backs to show?

Joe, I was thinking that it could be considered a saber but wasn't sure if it would fully qualify or not. Thanks for providing that info.

I have a couple others (different patterns) I'll try to get posted up over the next day or two.
