Ken Onion Work Sharp Belt Grinding Attachment

Are the belts on the grinding attachment abrasive enough for s45n or 3v? Are there any diamond belt options out there?

Yeah, they're fine for those steels. Not fine for Maxamet, however. You can buy sic and/or ceramic belts from third parties that will sharpen anything.

Really for the most part for setting a bevel it will be okay with most any steel (I dont have maxamet or Rex121 so take with grain of salt) where you run into issues is when you are looking to do more finishing work. That is when you will start having diminishing results with non diamond or CBN abrasives.

True ... HOWEVER! This is actually what I use mine for 95% of the time. I have a bunch of leather belts that I've loaded with various diamond and CBN compounds, and it's absolutely brilliant for putting a razor-sharp, polished finish on knives I've sharpened on stones. I can usually get a sharper edge stropping on the KO than I can stropping by hand. Which pisses me off, but it's true. :)

Oh I agree I do the same. Leather belt loaded up with 1 micron is what I use to clean up edges on the WSKO. My regular strops are almost obsolete at this point. Stropping already naturally puts a convex edge on your knives so im not all that worried about the slack belt and I have used it on everything from S30V, S35VN, M4, Elmax, 20cv, and S90V.

I keep it right next to where I typically cut up cardboard and one swipe on the moving belt either side keeps things ready to go for the next batch of cutting. Really is effortless.
