Ken Onion Work Sharp

So you have to be careful with the knife tip when sharpening?
Or you can make it blunt....Correct?

Yep. If you're not careful, it could take the tip off in one pass.

The instructions explicitly warn of this.

Specifically, STOP ON THE BELT AND LET GO OF THE TRIGGER!

It's really the only rule that has to be followed very closely no matter what.

Hey Bobby! I knew you'd chime in since you're one of the main reasons I got my KO WS [emoji106];)

I've found the purple belt is problematic too... Kind of odd about that, no?

I wonder if it's the technique we're using or something with the material on it that is counterproductive.

Anyways, have you (or anyone else) gotten the grinding attachment yet? I've heard different opinions on it's effectiveness.

Honestly I've been thinking about getting it, I'm kinda on the fence whether to buy it or a 1x30 from harbor freight.

I believe the problem with the purple belt is the belt itself. It's really flimsy compared to the others, im thinking that extra give allows it run over the edge rather than along it..that's my theory atleast.

The few things to watch with the tip are pulling the tip out instead of stopping it middle belt and also lifting the handle to far up when approaching the tip. Both will blunt your tip. Also you gotta start pulling as soon as you turn the machine on, any delay could result in a recurve over time.

I have a KO worksharp. It is nice. I use it mostly to profile & work a very dull edge. The field sharp is good also.
I still prefer working with a flat diamond stone. I think every knife nut should know how to hand sharpen.

It's also not limited to just knives. It makes sharpening machetes, axes, lawn mower blades and whatever else a breeze.

How long would you spend sharpening a machete? With this machine 10 minutes tops

I was also able to turn this pos mystery steel Gerber into a good useable knife. I was able to completely reprofile the knife in minutes and now it has an edge that holds up really well with allot of hard use (it's my go to beater knife for things not worthy of a bk2). Since reprofiling I've only had to strop it a lil and it's razor sharp again.

Does anyone here use compound on their Beckers? Is so, what kind? I've heard the green is too fine. Not sure if that's true though.

I strop with black first then flip it over and the other side is green. I have a few leather scraps laying around that I'm going to try white and jewellers rouge on eventually.

But for right now after I'm done with sharpening on either sand paper, wskt, or diamond stones I always strop, black then green, then bare leather, and get great results.

Depends ...

On my 24, I use a strop with green (once even a strop with diamond paste) but it's more of an EDC user.

For the rest, I don't strop. 600 is about as fine as I go. I just don't think anything finer is necessary for hard users.

Just picked up the blade grinder attachment, I'll report back after some use. I tried there new guided diamond sharpener to use on the knife I don't want convexed like a scandi and really liked it at first but with use I came to the conclusion it's a waste. So I just returned it for the blade grinder. I'm thinking with the 90° on it I should be able to sharpen a scandi grind with it.

I opened a new thread about the blade grinding attachment. This thing is awesome, It gets my knives much sharper than wskt ever did.

The grinding attachment is light to medium duty. It works pretty good if you don't have a grinder.
