I've been looking at getting a worksharp and I was wondering if the ken onion blade grinding attachment will work for grinding blades?

I don't believe it has enough belt length to do it with any efficiency. A 2 X 42 is just enough to grind blades with any results. I hear its a good machine to put convex edges on blades.

It's only a 3/4 x 12" belt. Not enough to grind a whole knife, you would be burning through belts in no time. There is also no platen for grinding on. I'm not sure of the horsepower rating but it is probably too low for an efficient grinder.

There is a grinder attachment which I own...the belts are thicker and last longer. I have ground lawnmower blades down on it....but don't know if it would be great for knife making.

I can't see how it would be practical for what you want honestly. That's basically & square inches of belt, where a 1x30 is 30 and a 2x72 is 144. Knowing how my 1x30 used belts before I went to a 2x72, I'm sure keeping up with those belts would break a guy. I'm sure it's good for sharpening knives and tools but as a primary grinder for a knifemaker it just doesn't seem practical.
