Ken Onion you've ruined me!!! A few years back I bought an avalanche and thought...wow...what a great all around utility knife. Well over three years later and countless other knives I have bought and allready owned, I keep going back to the avalanche!!! Now I have allot of other knives, many higher end, but no I have to keep going back to what works great for an edc. Yeah ken, you ruined me allright, I just thought you should know. After collecting knives for over twenty years, and trading off which one to carry now and then, for the last 3+ years I keep going back to the avalanche and if thats not enough I have it in both the old bead blast and the black coat blades. Also, if your wondering, I have the chive, scallion, leek, rainbow leek, whirlwind, etc......and one of the new ones. Which I have used these allot, but that avalanche does not seem to sit still for very long. Well Ken, you made a knife that truly is an edc for everything...that...avalanche.

Kudos to you Ken you did something with that avlanche that no other knife has done for me. Ive used this thing so much ive replaced the pocket clip...a few times. :)

Rev, I second your thoughts on the Avalanche, one of my all time fav's (I also have the original bead blast).

I'm jumping in here in the hopes that your post catches Ken's eye so once again I can lobby for more textured G-10 Onion's, please oh please. They may lack glam, but boy do they make users.

If you think you are ruined now.....

Just think what will happen if you ever get a custom Onion!

Thank you for those kind words. That is exactly what the Avalanche was suposed to be .A no frills hard use knife with the best materials. I like it to .

I was a collector long befor I started making knives. One day I realized that of the hundreds of knives I have I always seemed to carry the same two or three every day. That got me thinking that I can make another Tactical folder or gent folder etc...etc... but rather than working on a class of knives I should focus on what makes my favorite knives,my favorites and if I can incorporate whatever that element of the knife is into my designs then that would make for a better direction . Im honored you understand that and am glad this direction is working. Thank you for sharing.

Boink, rev_jch said "Now I have allot of other knives, many higher end, but no I have to keep going back to what works great for an edc." That makes it a production one i would say. hehe The last Med-Tech i saw for sale went for $1800 and sold the first day, glad i have one. hehe

I have recently come to appreciate Ken Onion's stuff. I was going to get a Whirlwind on Boxing Day, but then I saw the BUMP and that looks like a great deal. But then I read that SHOT show will see the debut of some new Onion/Kershaw knives. Waiting sucks!

I am happy to see that Kershaw is making larger speedsafe knives, in premium steels and frame locks. Way to go Kershaw and Ken!

Wish I can get the bucks for the Boa.
Man that baby has the sexiest recurve blade. I just love the looks of the recurve

I've liked most of the Ken Onion designs I've seen, but the Boa is in a class by itself! Everything about that knife just works.

Heard that knifeworks.com has a few bump in stock!!! One is mine, mineee haaaaa!!!! Take a look at the blade shape!

yeah Ken.......I understand allright!!!!! It worked out fairly well. As picky as I can be (am) it worked out real well!!! This avalanche has done almost everything!!! camping/hiking, repairing, etc., etc. etc., etc. etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.

I do have to hand it to you, you knew what you were doing!!!!!! If I had I had made it myself, or requested someone else make it, it could'nt have turned out better!!!! (for its intended purpose).

I remember (almost) three years ago I talked to you on the phone as I was coming to Maui to get married. I had asked you to sign my knife if I was to come to Honolulu. You said you would be happy to. Unfortunatley after (almost) a week in maui I opened up the new avalanche, before I was to see you, and it had rusted in the box (still in the wrap!). So I decided not bother you since the blade had been ruined. I was pretty disappointed, but when I got home I sent the knife to kershaw and they replaced the blade (not that I look back I wish I had brought a backup, but who could have known?).

:(

:)

boink its a production folder, at a very affordable price, excellant materials, and can run circles around many twice, three times, its price!!! (the blade is now s30v)

Yeah the speedsafe is fun!
I recently purchased a chive, my first speedsafe knife. It looked like a really good edc, and yes sir it is! It came very sharp and the speedsafe works like a charm. The frame lock can be easily dislocated, but it doesnt bother me because it will soon wear and be rock solid.
Also, the shape of the blade and handle work very well. Its fantastic for any small chore and even bigger ones.:D
Thanks, Ken! I hope to get some more speedsafes in the future.

I love my new Kershaw Bump. It is the best looking production knife I have. It is now in my EDC rotation and is a great working knife also.

Form follows function. Ken has this down to a science.

Thanks for the info.

The Bump does look mighty fine and the Boa is so popular that it is one that I read Ken got tired making, therefore the change to a mid-tech design.

Avalanche is my favorite too, it is perfect!

I wish they will make same but 3.5-3.75" long so I'll have medium and big size Avalanches both.

Only dual thumb stud will make it better.
And I gave up my request for BC - titanium nitride work very well, better then mirror polish on BC where any touch will make it looks dirty.

Do not go for S30V, only S90V I'll accept as improvement. May be Axis lock? May be polished G10?

Thanks, Vassili.

rev-jch, You should have just come over for a visit .Thanks again everyone for such wonderful feedback.

Most of you know that the "Bump" is my absolute favorite carrying knife .It performs better than any other knife I have used. It is a little funky and takes some getting used to but hands it is hands down my fav for a do everything knife . Kershaw has had a slow start getting these to market basicly because I have been such a pain in the ass about making sure it is right. The first run of Bumps will be a little different than the seccond run as Kershaw didn't quite have the blade geometries just right so I raised hell. The seccond run will have a more pronounced bump in the blade and the tip will be slightly wider. Both are great cutters but the seccond gen will do it with style.
The Bump in the handle may feel a little uncomfortable in the beginning however it has a purpose . It is an anti rotation or control bump. I was doing alot of impact testing a couple years ago and found a need for such a devise. It also gives the user great stability and confidence. Let me know your thoughts .
