Hey guys I just got a Kershaw Cryo 2 and just wondering if there is anything I can do to tune it up? It opens fine but doesn't snap open so I don't know if I can put oil on it to smooth it out. Now I don't think there is any problem with it and understand it's a budget knife. Just looking to see if I can make any improvements.

Thanks

Go ahead and lube it however you like. Also adjust the pivot if that helps. Careful not to strip it tho. Some of those are caked in loctite.

It is a $20-30 dollar knife.. Have at it! Those are the ones you want to play/practice on. Actually really nice knife and was my 1st intro to hinder's design.
Btw, my buddies flew open pretty fast.

Try cleaning, lubing, loosing up the pivot. I think it has copper washers so you can polish those as well.
But being assisted it should fly open..

What do you mean by "snap open"? It is already an assisted open knife.
The last assited opening flipper I had seemed to open quicker and smoother. I truly don't think there is a problem with the knife, i just want make improvements if possible.

Thanks. I will give it a go. When adjusting the pivot what do you mean exactly? Forgive me as this is the first knife I'm attempting this on.

Thanks. What do I do with the copper washers? What polishing agent? Again sorry for my ignorance but I want to learn.

I would recommend disassembling the Cryo and lubing the pivot and washers. I use Tuf Glide dry lubricant.

To disassemble:
1. OPEN the knife so the spring doesn't have any stored energy. Make mental notes of where the spring fits into the blade
2. Unscrew the two screws near the spine (should be two of them)
3. Unscrew the pivot screw. This is the big one that the blade rotates on
4. Clean any debris from the copper washers, pivot and add a few drops of Tuf Glide or lube of your choice. You don't need a lot of lubricant.
5. Reassemble in reverse order. Make sure everything is lined up.

Don't crank down the pivot screw. Get it snug and back it off until you are happy with how hard it fires out of the handle. It may take a little messing with to get the perfect balance little to no blade play and ability to fire out briskly.

Hope this helps

Should be plenty fast out of the box, but if not you can always disassemble and lube and polish washers, this should help! I saw somewhere rubbing those copper washers vigorously on newspaper does a good polishing job, btw love my Cryo, haven't touched it other than a little nano oil!

Microfiber cloth with mothers polish. Any automotive store or home depot would have it. Good for most metals.
