Where are you Shaggi????

Dang! How did I miss a thread about bourbon? Haven't had any of my favorite liquor since I left Kentucky four months ago.

I gotta go find a bottle of Wild Turkey! :D

Peter,

BTW, don't start smoking cigars until you're 21 or 22, it's a bad habit for a young man and you'll just look silly.

Thanks for the advice and information. I wasn't going to try anyways until I was older anyways.

I have been to Cuba and enjoyed it quite a bit. For a communist country, the people seem quite happy and are very nice just to talk to about their lives. How was your stay in Cuba?

Well I was in Cuba, I noticed many Cohibas for sale in various shops. They are quite expensive, they were about $200US a box and I did not have the money for that kind of thing.

$7 up for a TOBACCO? (Cuban for cigar). No way down here, the Cubans would never go for it. Hand rolled Dominicans or Honduras or C.A. go for about .50 to $1.35 max, depending on the size. Handrolled in Miami and usually never over a week old. When Castro took over the growers smuggled seeds out to the nearby islands or C.A. and a bunch of rollers made their way to Miami.

A friend is a Customs agent and many, many Cohibas are just fakes, even in Cuba. The new big business is stealing/counterfiting bands and boxes, using low quality tobacco and selling for big $$$$$. Mostly 'deals' on other islands, but some from Cuba itself. If it's too good to be true ......

Drinking Ancient Age and ginger. My Dad drinks it and I've been drinking it for 35 yrs or so and I like it too. The trick with bourbon and ginger is to use WARM ginger from a can, good for 2 drinks. Cold, it just doesn't taste the same. Don't know why, just doesn't.

Well considering Anchorage passed a 120% tax increase and continues to do so, I can't quite find them much cheaper ;)

As for a week old, aren't certain cigars better when aged correctly?

I like your neighbors whisky...

So Rob, does that mean you would be willing to get some nice cigars for us "West Coast" hogs at a good price?

WOW!!! That's MY knife! An NO-E with a BB and butt grind that was the first to go through Jerry's new sharpening machine. Still in the box as it has both Shaggi's and Blade Babe's lip prints on it. Was going to be a user, but how do you use a knife that's so marked?

Peter .. red chicklets to you for not knowing who the Shagster is. If you ask who BB is you'll be banned. LOL

Should have been more clear on the tobaccos. The tobacco is aged, but the cigars are rolled on a daily basis and sent around to the local bodegas and such. They are just wrapped in cellophane and then into a heavy paper 'box' of 20 or 25. Usually you only buy a days worth of 3 or 4. They really aren't packaged for any sort of long term. I've never seen a Cuban buy more than a few at a time and have NEVER seen one buying/smoking Cohibas or Monte Cristos or the like. It may be a political thing or may be they won't spend more than $4 or $5/day for their tobaccos. I think it's more the $$ thing as they usually have one going all the time.

KAAK Yeah, I can send tobaccos out west. Ask Progunner. What I DO have to do is check them out. There are easily more than 50 'brands' down here with each bodega carring something different. Some are worth way more than what you paid and some are not. Depends on the roller and what they have to work with on a particular day. Usually if I find one out of a package that is above the norm, I'll go back and buy whatever's left. It can vary quite a bit. But then again, in a 2 block stretch (in Hialeah), there may be 5 or 6 Bodegas to sample and new stock comes in every other day or so. Let me start looking.

1. Since they are illegal, it depends on which shady character you get them from.

2. Shaggi is an old employee of Busse Combat. She used to make things happen.

Thanks for the info everyone!

How did you like Cuba, Matteo? I really liked it, for a communist country, it is quite nice.

Can Cohibas and Monte Christos be bought in "back alley" shops in the US?

See the 'fakes' comment I made about the stolen/counterfit bands and boxes. Shady deals usually result in paying big $$$$ for not real cigars. Or not real Cohibas in any event.

I plan on moving to Cuba when Fidelito dies and the commies are gone. Beautiful country and most of them are in S Fl anyway (the population). Imagine a country frozen in 1959.

We're sure they can, but don't know where, and don't want to know where.

I can just drive up north and cross the border to smoke them if I am so compelled.

Don't really wanna end up smokin a differnt kind of cigar by breakin laws to smoke illegal ones....

i can't smoke cuban cigars, to damned strong for me, i love the dominican cigars though. i think they have more flavor.... good smokes

I could not agree more, I would like to live their if it were not a communist country. Fidel is going pretty soon, he is almost 80. pretty soon the country will open up.
