Kephart Appreciation Thread!

Nope. Very next one I saw was mine. Woot. The handle is Black Locust. 1/8" and tapered.

I'll take them both ;)

I did this 'salesman sample' for the good folks at Shadetree. I get to see the knife each year on their table.

Man, this is one of my favorite threads ever, all the pics are awesome!!

Mist, here's my knifes balance point. It's just about between the two front set of pins. Other than the tang and, it's looks like, a small difference in the grind height, they are the same.

I wish I could measure the weight of mine so that we could compare. Do you know the weight of yours? I'll try to have mine weighed the next time I'm at the post office.

Curious to know where yours balances. Interestingly, my full tang karda is nearly as heavy as the Kephart. Both are 5/32.

Cool, I really like that balance point, thank you!!

Thanks Mist!

Balance is not really something that I've ever considered with my knives. I'm actually not really sure why it makes a difference unless you're talking about a chopper where you want weight forward to do its job, or maybe a fighting knife where you want the weight in the handle to produce a lively and fast blade.

Is it a matter of ergonomics, or does it have to do with fatigue maybe? I'd love to know your thoughts.

Andy, thanks for adding those! I'll never understand how one can produce knife after knife and keep your amazing quality. Honestly, even knowing my knife is a model standard, I can't get over how perfectly it's put together. The grinds are flawless.

I'd love to see some heavily used pics from anyone that hammers on theirs. Probably not many use them super hard, but if you do, show it! Me, I've got a couple of beaters that I do the rough stuff with while camping. I'd love to have a 1/8" Kephart since I won't see the potential of the 5/32 config. to its fullest.

Yes, wrist and finger fatigue in long term use. A neutral balance (balancing on the first finger) is optimal for reducing hand fatigue in long term use. For a decent sized chopper, I like the balance point a finger width or two in front of the handle.

Here's my humble contribution, 1/8" SFT. Lust at first sight, love at first hold. For reference, mine weighs 5.22 oz.

Andy's Kephart is long overdue for an appreciation thread.

I regret every Kephart I've ever sold. It's a very handy, capable blade to have around and let's admit it, it's friggin cool looking.

Here's my wife's doublemint Kephart next to my Big Paw.

I love your wife's double mint Duder! Just beautiful. If I ever have the chance to pick up another Kephart I'd want a white micarta example, or something with black and orange (Halloween style). Something about the light colored synthetics really does it for me. :)

I was not originally drawn to the kephart, but once I got my hands on one it was all over. This one in bocote is one of my favorite fiddlebacks. I love it.

The Bocote on that one is aging so beatufully. Good to see it getting used!

I arrived very late to a shark frenzy back in February, kinda like a dopey seagull just looking to see what I missed and the last remaining knife was this Kephart - Cornflower blue g10 over natural canvas with white blue white g10 pinstripes, Kennebunkport Khaki Config, SFT Tang, Convex on 1/8” thick 3D Spalted 01 steel. Since I always wanted a Kephart I jumped at the chance and I have to say I just love it. I never get tired of holding it, carrying it, cutting stuff, showing it off, etc. I can't believe it was still sitting there long after the frenzy. I guess the Cornflower blue g10 isn't for everyone, but man I'm so glad we were found each other! :love_heart:

Duder, that is one fine his-and-hers set of knives. Truly splendid.

hiredgun, I'm with you on the cornflower G-10. It makes a really unique handle. That is a great score.
