Along with the new Full Tang Kepharts, Mike Stewart is making a small companion fixed blade based on one Horace Kephart is reported to have used.

Here are photos of the original and the BRK&T prototype.

It looks like a functional little knife.

“Kephart Kompanion” Specs:

Overall Length: 6.775 Inches
Blade Length: 3 Inches
Cutting Edge: 2.775 Inches
Blade Steel: A-2 @ 58rc
Blade Thickness: .145 Inch
Weight: 3.125 Ounces

Yep. I want one.

 Very nice. Keep us posted if you hear of any pricing.

That`s a pretty thick little blade! I like it, maybe I`ll make one in 3/32" stock togo along with my Kephart.

That looks like a very useful little knife. I actually think a slightly thinner blade would be better though.

That looks like it's gonna be a real handy little knife to have with ya !!!

that looks like a great blade. i think that they should have done some filework though.

Based on the information that I have, this knife was a last minute project.

Once the old photo surfaced Mike Stewart modified an existing A2 Kephart blade to create his prototype.

He’s is going to do a small batch off these out of the blades he has available.

As these blades are already heat treated, there will be no additional jimpling or file work done.

Cutting these knives down from existing blades will be labor intensive as it is.

I think he is looking to hook-up a few of the Kephart faithful with a modern version of Horace’s original pair.

These knives will be available from Derrick at KSF.

Whether in the future this knife becomes part of regular production schedule, be made from thinner stock, or have the “fish scaler” notches of the original is just guess work at this point.

I would suggest, that if you want one of these, that you contact Derrick ASAP to place an order, at this point you might even be able to get handle material to match a new Full Tang Kephart.

Out of curiosity, I dug out my old Imperial Sportsman H-7. The serations/fish scaler on the back of the original Kephart Companion have a striking resemblance to the old Imperial. I counted 'em up and they both have 14 notches. On both, the notches end near the plunge line.

This is the only pic I have of my H7:

Between the first notch and the tip, you can see a slight drop but rather straight.

I'm not 100% sure but the Kephart Companion looks like another modified production knife (Just as the original Kephart and Nessmuk are rumored to be).

I picked this one up at a flea market for $5 with the intent of modifying/customizing it. Looks like I might be making my own Kephart Companion :D.

BRKT never disappoints me. This looks great!

My small brown mule folder looks very similar to the original knife, without the scaler of course. The brkt version looks like it may make a nice bird and trout knife if it is eventually made thinner and with the scaler.
