Photos Kepharts...They just Work

I would like to find this version of a Kephart with a slightly "leaf" shaped bade

Hi All, here's my tribute to the iconic Kephart in 1/8" 80CRV2, leopardwood and red G10 liners. I stayed as faithful to the original as I could, including the profile (of course), convex blade, lightly convexed to the rounded spine, flared front scales. In general "everything that needs to be there is, and nothing is there that doesn't need to be" (paraphrased from one of the articles I read).

I took liberties with the Campitas Turquoise inlays and liners and an improved "Tracker" sheath (the original sheath is just plane dangerous by today's standards). Hope you like it!

John, you've done ol' Horace proud. That's one fine looking rig you made there. Anybody should be proud to carry her.

This is the one.

Good for you cbach. We believe you but we still need cbach pics. :)

Heyoh! LOL. Love the friendly callout. Pics or it didn't happen.

And so I'm contributing to the pics, here's a recent acquisition (and available for rent if you want to try one out) that is a nice Kephart shaped blade with a slightly contoured handle. The handle is super roomy, I really like this one (JK knives mud turtle).

Hey BE, that's a dang good looking knife and a dang smart idea about renting before you buy. How many times have we bought something only to find out we don't really like it for one reason or another, then turn around selling it for a loss?
I'm guilty. :(

What maker(s) do a sub-7" overall length Kephart? Considering something "nicer" than the Condor Compact Kephart which I like. I would be comfortable with essentially the same size as the Compact Kephart. This would be for edc type carry.

Best I can think of is the Bush baby from LT. I have a Pocket Kephart from JK knives that was a gift, and if you can tolerate a 3.5 finger grip, it's pretty decent too. I carry it in my bag in case I need something more heavy use than a folder or thin fixed blade, but still compact. It has enough thickness I wouldn't worry much about abusing it a bit.

I like the Kephart design and using this Condor Compact Kephart has taught me that I don't need a 4 finger grip for an edc fixed blade because in essence I am substituting using it for when I would normally use a folder. And I have been moving to smaller folders versus the larger full grip ones because they are easy to carry and function quite well for everyday use.

I still really like the little Bark River Mini Kephart. I am super glad I bought that one and you bikerector bikerector helped me make that decision. Having KSF close is awfully convenient.

I keep larger knives available should I need them, but the real need for a larger knife day to day is rare. In the woods..... larger may be better.

So, I'm mostly thinking of a quality upgrade and maybe an interesting handle material. I don't know.... I have other small handmade knives that are quite nice already. But they aren't kepharts. There is no rush for this..... months are fine..... as I am content with the Condor Compact Kephart. It is very easy to carry and easy to sharpen on a bench stone.

This is sort of a reality check.... practical reality on knife usage.

Since you aren't in urgent need of something, I can send you the pocket Kephart I have to check out. It's actually pretty close to the bush baby from LT, which I used to own. Not quite my cup of tea as I like a less wide blade when at such a short blade length. But, they should be abour right if the condor compact Kephart is what you're after replacing.

John from JK Knives can do all manner of handle materials as well and he does a bit of a rough finish so it's actually a bit grabby on the hand still.

Disclaimer: I do business with JK Knives so I have some bias there. I also rent out some of his knife designs for profit/marketing so take that as you will.
