Kerambit and a silly question from a Noob

Leatherface, The blade is 5 1/2" in a straight line from the bolster to the tip.

Dave, Yep, Chandan.

I carried this one a bit a couple of saturdays ago. Don't carry a fixed blade much, as it causes a stir around town. I wrapped some paracord around the top of the belt loop, making it ride high. Carried it on my left side. Just the tip of the sheath poked out under a sweatshirt. Very handy.

Nice Pics steve! I had forgotten how much I wanted one. Now I remember.

Leatherface,

The thickest, beastiest khuk per length is probably the Chiruwa Ang Khola. Is that what you're after? I think they still have the "you break it, you get two free" offer. Hard to beat!

Folks,

Keep in mind that Steve Ferguson can make a knife, ANY knife, look prettier than almost anyone else in the world.

The Sarge would not have made it to production without his finishing work.

(I think he is an alien.)

I e-mailed HI as was suggested...It was promply returned and I was informed that I was now on the list to get one..gravy customer service!!

namaarie...it is similar to what I am looking for..I am beginning to think that it might be a custom only or one of there short runs...Thanks though

forgive me for not saying it earlier...

Welcome!

According to my searches, the last DOTD Kerambit was offered Aug 6th. It was an antler handle with a stand. It was offered Saturday. I saw it Sunday night and bought it.

How did I miss this thread?:)
The HI Kerambit is one of my top three knives. First place goes to the HI Sarge/Kismet Practical Hunter or probably my modified "Corporal" knife. It's too handy, too strong, and too good lookin' not to get first place.
Second is the AK bowie. I love this mean lookin sucker. I can chop well with it in a pinch, plus it's nuke proof and easy to pack.
Third is the Kerambit. The perfect SD knife. This is my Urban survival knife. Would it be great for a goring an attacker? Of course, but in my mind SD and survival go beyond being attacked. This knife cut cut you out of a car wreck, break glass to escape, and zip through seat belts if needed. I had Dan Koster make me a handsome leather sheath for mine (it looks a lot like Steve's). I wear it on my hip from time to time when I go out with long jacket on. Most of the time it rides secretly in the breast pocket inside my jacket. It's there in a flash.
Steely's first few steps in a survival situation when mugged:
1.) hand over your wallet, get away, and try not to pee yourself.
2.) hand over your wallet, and get your wife away if there is still a threat
3.) if backed into a corner, hand over your wallet, try to get away. If the wallet isn't enough go into raptor mode, scare the poop out the guy enough that you can slip by and get the hell outta Dodge. Always follow up with a 911 call.
Over simplified, but we've had thread after thread on this stuff.

You're really gonna like it:)

Jake

Daniel...No worries..Thanks!!!

Steely, yea if I can get one

BTW my SD plan is similar, but it involves alot of screaming like a woman and begging for my life:D

Jake,

That sounds like me. Get the wife to safety. I got on that Kermabit list today. I've haven't found an HI kinife I didn't like yet, and I'm lusting after all of them. The small ones I've gotten are really nice. I've gotta figure out how to make dangler sheaths. I finished my po-boy kinife tonight and its a sweetie. Now I need some leather so I can waste more time at work.

Sounds like you're fittin' right in, Andy:) I love it when the next class of khuk knuts takes shape:)

Jake

PPPPPPlease tell me your leather wisdom. I am having trouble buying small quantities. There is a Tandy in town, so I can get sides and shoulders and big pieces, but I need to make a dangler sheath. I don't want to spend 200 on leather when I need a 8"x8" piece. I eventually want to spend some $ and get a tooling side. I want to make a sheath for my Khuks, but for now I just need some scraps.

Where are you located?

Andy, Tandy almost always has a scrap bin where you can buy smaller pieces. You might want to check it out.

What Yvsa said. And if there's nothing visible, ask the guy behind the counter; I don't know what their official policy is but it seems like the one here always has stuff that they're trying to get rid of.

We're very fortunate in that the oddball pieces of leather that most people don't want are perfect for our needs. (And generally heavily discounted.)

Thanks guys. I've been meaning to go to the store, but its 40 miles each way and I just haven't gotten it done yet. I'll try to swing that way this weekend. My work is 42 miles each way from home in the opposite direction, so going during the week is out. Atlanta traffic is awful, of course.

ya live near tandy?? Ok well that takes care of that...I was gonna suggest Zack Whites here in NC...they are a bit cheaper than Tandy on Double Shoulders, but you would have to pay for shipping...

Problem solved!:D
