Seems like we've had a rash of "That's not a Real Kerambit" threads 'round these parts lately...(regarding the H.I. Kerambit)

And being the sensitive guy I am...I actually got myself worked up to the point that I started wondering what the heck actually happened! How did we end up with a non-hawkbill kerambit? :foot:

I mean...I'm all for new designs and all...but I have a deep respect for following traditional models in regards to naming and I even sometimes poke fun at those that take liberties. (again...:foot:)

Well...this evening I suddenly remembered the first design thread - which can be found here:

Original question was posed by Hibuke in this thread:

And now I return to feeling justified in my cantankerousness towards those who "put down" our lil' kerambit...

In all reality...it's actually our fault....what we should have done was picked a new name and called it the "Keramshee".

You see...the original design was an idea by Hibuke for a short, easy-to-carry blade that combined the best features of the Kerambit with the smaller hanshee-bladed 12" sirupati. Hence, the bellied blade (rather than hawkbill).

So, I guess I have my thumb on my nose and my fingers wagging now....:p

And from now on out...I'm calling it the Keramshee. I don't care if anybody else follows suit...but having been responsible for a good part of the design...I seem to catch the most heat (self-inflicted to be sure)...and want to set my mind at ease.

And there you have it...this is not really a rant...nor a flame war...nor am I venting.

Just laying it on the table. :D

works fine for me...

I have always regretted selling my first acquired HI kerambit, one of the first six or so made. The handle ring was too large, and the satisal wood was a very dull example of that wood, but other than that the bolster was _perfect_ and the blade had twin deep fullers that went all the way back to the bolster. The newer models do not have that. I have 4 of the new ones in various sizes, but none of them are as labor intensive WRT the blade as those first copies.

I just snagged one of Dan's excellent kydex sheaths, and without having to customize it, it fits two of the knives perfectly. Great combination.

I also think KERAMSHEE is good name.

Coincidently, I just bought a kerambit (traditional, fixed blade) last night from a handicraft shop in Central Market, Kuala Lumpur. It's double edge and has an oval guard between the blade and handle.

The shop owner told me to keep the receipt, so, if stopped by the cop, I should reply " I dont know it's illegal to buy or carry a kerambit, I thought if it's allowed to be sold in the open, then buying / carrying is not illegal". I went on buying & carrying nevertheless, so I will have something to sharpen this coming weekend.
