I offered to sharpen a friends old Kershaw stainless folder last night. The knife had been used very hard for several years. Since this friend has been reconditioning a 18 year old mountain bike for me (the first mass produced mtn bike, the Specialized Stumpjumper), I decided I would take the time to fully restore his knife. I'm in the process of sanding all parts of the knife from 1500 to 8000 grit.

The only marks on the face side of the tang is Kershaw Oregon USA and by kai Japan 2040 on the reverse. It is a very slim lockback with a three inch Flat ground drop point blade and a stainless framed handle with rosewood inserts. I really like this small knife. Anybody know more about it?

Like how old is it? Or anything about the steel? I assume it is an import item. I checked Kershaws site and it looks like linerlocks are all they make now. This is a great little gents pocketknife. Was it discontinued?
