kershaw and assisted opening

ao is an awesome addition for 99% of the people out there, thats why they are so popular on kershaw knifes. it works well and it sells.

Personally I think AO is a great feature, and it sells a lot of the non knife people I know on carrying knives since it makes them more "fun". Just picked up a salvo recently though and man that is a great knife for the money, non AO, frame lock, tracktech handle inserts and I found one for $25, very impressive. But that knife pops open so quick as a non AO that I don't see how someone can have a problem with AO. Any knife can be opened slowly if you want, but not every knife can pop open quick.

yes.

I was having a discussion with some other people on the kershaw forum, and Thomas chimed in and said something along the lines of " we sell to people who are looking for something functional at a lower price than lots of offerings on the market." AO sells knives to non knife people who would otherwise just not carry a knife. this forum is not kershaw's target market. this forum is ZT's target market.

There are many more markets for ZT than this forum. ;)

I love AO's but I also love Manual openers,I like the flippers but it's taking a little longer to get accustomed.

I love AO knives ! It looks like it's trendy not to like AO knives. I guess people think AO is for the masses and they feel special with manual openers (like manual vs automatic in cars)
AO works well so I use it. Period

Well, I tried a personalized experiment. I took the torsion bar out of my 350. Put it all together, blade was centered, work beautifully. I used it for a few days, and less then 20 minutes ago, put the torsion bar back in. I liked it better as an AO. :D

On the other hand tho, I do love my 0200 just fine without the AO..

i can only speak for myself but in my case it has nothing to do with trendy or feeling special. i'd imagine that to be the case with most people as well. personal preference, sure, but trendy/sexy? maybe in some but i doubt the majority. if anything the majority here are showing it's more common to like the AO. for me as i mentioned it has everything to do with close work quarters and the blade inadvertently being pulled from my pocket and opening up when hitting the ground on multiple occasions...and i still carry it and enjoy it, just not as much as my manual folders. to each their own, as it were. if it's any consolation i do drive an automatic vehicle haha. ;-)
