kershaw blade broke?

Pics? The internet is filled full of stuff best described as what comes out of the back side of a bull.

A friend of mine has carried a Leek as a work knife for several years. He's a robust fellow who installs lawn sprinklers, so he uses it to cut in the dirt and other similar tasks. I would have thought that he needed a Cold Steel mondo knife of mass destruction to withstand the rigorous use, but last time I looked, his knife was dull, but intact.

Broken blade. Not sure how that happened. I have two of these, but they are in 13C26, which is really tough, and in the improved version of 14C28N. Not likely to break. Was that knife a D2 version? What was the steel and what was he doing with it? That is an improbable place for a blade to break if it is not being pried with or stabbed into something hard, like a tree or desktop. Interesting.

I've been edc'ing a leek with 14c28n for 3+ years now... never an issue, even the tip.
Mind you, I wouldn't use it to chop & pry frozen food... that is what a cleaver is for

perhaps this guy needs to use the right tool for the job?

Even with the above pic for "evidence" I call BS.

Unless of course your "friend" was playing the Forged In Fire drinking game and had to chug another Zima or test his Leek by batoning it into his mom's marble countertop. Then, just maybe.

"Need" to cut frozen food?
One choice:
Use a saw. A hacksaw blade works great.

Why do you have to cut it while frozen though?
Why not let it thaw then cut it with your knife?
If your trying to separate pieces that are frozen together (such as pork chops, chicken breasts or quarters, fish, etc.) You're better off to thaw them, and remember next time to put them in individual baggies, or wrap each piece with waxed paper and/or Saran Wrap before sticking them in the freezer.

I would treat most of the Kershaw folders, especially the Leek, as light use EDC knives and they're perfectly fine for that application. The only exception for more rigorous use would be maybe the Blur and especially the Special Edition Blur that they put out with M4 steel.

If you're looking for a hard use EDC folder you should be thinking of something like Cold Steel American Lawman (or any of their Andrew Demko designed folding knives), Benchmade (lots of quality full size folders, like the Griptilion and Freek), Zero Tolerance (almost any tank knife will do), or a Kizer Sheepdog. There are certainly many others, but those are ones I have experience using.

Probably just grabbed what was in his pocket. We've all done that. Never broke a blade but, like they say. Those that have and those that are going to.
