Hi, I'm looking to buy a blem folder from Kershawguy.com. Please tell me if I'm wrong on this but blems are just knives with blemishes not effecting the service of the knife, just the appearance, right? Has anyone had any good/bad experinces with blems specifically from kershawguy.com. Thanks for any responces.

No need to worry he is the most excellent purveyor of slightly blemished models. Typically just a mark or a slightly off blade grind. They all funxion like they should or they would not leave the factory. I own a few and I can't find the blemish

Yes, that's what he advertises. I myself haven't purchased any blems but I did purchase some limited run Skylines and they were perfect. Quick shipping and answers his emails really fast.

Terafanatic, i've purchased 4 blems from him now and if not for the "XXXX" stamp on the blade, I wouldn't have been able to tell that they were blems. They are near perfect knives. I recommend buying them, especially from Kershawguy. Great service.

How about this.

I bought a new 0560 in MAy.

The wife got me a blem 0561 for Christmas.

My non-blem 0560 has blade grinds that are MORE uneven. The 0561 flips better than the 0560 and the blade is better centered. My 0560 had an issue with the lock bar rubbing on the frame which was not a problem on the blem.

Basically, my blem 0561 is in MUCH better shape than my non-blem 0560.

I think the fact that the serial numbers are over 1000 numbers apart might have something to do with it.

I have a bunch of blems that I bought from Dave. On most of them, I can't find the reason they have been marked as blems.

I bought a non-blem 0561 as a gift for a buddy and a blem 0561 for myself from Dave. On the non-blem I could clearly see tool marks from the blade being ground through the stonewash (not on the blem), and I like the detent and flipping action on my blem better. Definitely go for the blem!

I've bought about half a dozen blems, and only one of them showed even the slightest imperfection that I could see. The others just look like regular Kershaw knives, except for the XXXX mark on the blade.

I'll join the chorus. I only have one, but I can find no flaw. As others have said, Dave is a prince of a fellow.

My experience is that I couldn't find the "blem", nor could I find a better guy to deal with than Dave.

Rest assured, you'll be pleased.

I have several blems, and they are all fantastic! The ZT0200 blem that I got from him had a post-it on the bag that said "spot on blade f"; it had the tinyest discoloration in the DLC on the front of the blade, and I can find nothing else that would make it a blem. In short, don't walk, run to get your credit card! By the way, Dave's shipping is amazing; I normally order on a Friday and it's in my mailbox on Monday (OR to MI).

Indeed, Dave (kershawguy) is a fabulous dealer, and when it comes to blems he does his best to pick the best ones available to sell.

He always goes above and beyond what a dealer normally would to make their customers happy. You shouldn't think twice about ordering from him, especially blems.

It is wrong to say blems are cosmetic problems only, according to the man who would know

ff5, blems have problems. Those that have bought blems without problems that exceed a scratch and dent should consider themselves fortunate. I don't like blems, never will. It's a big waste of our time and energies. Having to do up an annual warehouse sale is unfortunate, and I hope it goes away some day. Having blems on the market is not ideal. Explaining issues with regards to these blems also is difficult. Having blems show up for warranty is a problem. Having dealers not disclose that knives are blems is additionally an issue. Answering what an XXXX is on a blade can be frustrating. Blems having a good reputation saddens me.

HT on the SG2 was challenging, grinding them was challenging. There were a lot of parts that were not flat with these knives (blems). Flippers don't flip well with parts that are not true. Parts can wear oddly when components are fighting with/against each other. I believe the clad was a 420/SG2 marriage. The 420 can be soft, it can also scratch very easy. It sounds as if the blems you received had issues with a soft outer, and parts not being flat. It's difficult to diagnose without seeing it.

Hope that helps.

When it comes to Kershawguy's blems, though, he says he picks through them and only sells those with cosmetic problems.

Yes, that is speaking on blems as a whole. However, since we're talking about the ones that Dave picks up, there's another relevant quote from that thread:

Well I guess I will respond to this thread. I sold dozens of the SG2 JYD blems and never heard anyone saying anything about any problems whatsoever, so I believe that for whatever reason you have had a run of bad luck. That being said, blems have been an absolute blessing to myself and my family. They provide those of us with a knife that we are not afraid to use and we buy the firsts to store in our collections. I have seen some companies that destroy their seconds and to me that is a real waste and even though I am not an overly eco minded kind of guy, it doesn't make sense for the planet either. So I say kudos to Kershaw for not wasting product, I know they could toss them if they chose too. I have sold thousands of blems and I have only had a handful that I held back because I thought they were not good enough to go out. I believe that thousands of people have been introduced to Kershaw knives through the purchase of seconds and had thoughts like, wow if these are this cool and they are seconds, I need to buy some new ones. There is always a reason for everything and there will always be pros and cons for everything. It goes without saying that I would be very sad to see blems go away. Thomas, I know it's a pain for you guys, but I know that I speak for thousands, we like all Kershaw knives , blems included.

So if you're going to get a blem model, there really is only one smart choice, especially since if you get it and find that it's just a bad piece, he'll work with you to make you happy.

^ that makes me feel even better about purchasing a blem from Dave.
I am confident that when my 0561 shows up, it will be perfect despite it being a blem.

huh. can't understand why this was moved to GB&U from the Kershaw sub. i always thought GB&U was for reviews of knife dealers, and transactions. seems to me the bulk of this pertains directly to what a KAI blem is...not who Dave is...

If its Kershaw Dave is the only way to go in my book, weather it's a first or a blem. You can't get better service. I have purchased from him for years now and never a problem. The only thing to remember is that a blem does not have a warranty, but Kershaw has always provide parts, like pocket clips and torsion bars. Gifted a bunch of the blems over the years and never a concern with any of them.

...i have quite a few kershaw blems and only a couple are cosmetic blemishes; the rest are uneven grinds...which bothers me not a bit...with the severe discount on them, i love them to death LOL...
