Kershaw Blur Blade Steel Question

The Blur has been made in a few different steels over the years. It just depends on the model number. Some, like the one pictured below, have the blade steel stamped on the blade as part of the model number. The model you purchased is currently being made in Sandvik 14c28n steel.

The example below is CPM 154. You just have to look when you get it or ask the seller. If you have a picture of it from the listing, that might help too. Congratulations on your purchase.

Depends how old it is, I suppose. We know the current steel is 14c28n, and the generation before was 13c26. I know an earlier run had 440a, but I'm not too sure what year that was.

There are many steels as they have changed but that model may possible have AUS8. If it does not say the steel it may be a factory blem.

It looks very well used. I will post a pic as soon as I get it. I don't see any thing other than the marking indicating the model number 1670BLKST, KAI Patented, and Made in USA. I am guessing that it is the older 440A steel, but I was wondering if there was a certain way to know. It has what I assume to be the older serrations on it. Large separated by two smaller, than large... It is well used, but I felt I couldn't pass it up as it was this knife and a Benchmade 9100 for what I felt was a good price.

Edit: After taking a closer look at the last photo I posted, it looks like it has APR 08 listed on the bottom of the blade. Does this mean anything as far as what steel it is?

From what I could find...
(source) - Blade changed from 440A to 13C26 in July 2007. Blade will have a date stamp.
(source) - Blade changed from 13C26 to 14C28N in January 2009. Not sure if those feature a date stamp.

If yours is dated April 2008, then it most likely 13C26.

Hey thanks flarp. I did actually try searching for this info before I posted here, but I guess I wasn't searching with the right parameters, cause I couldn't find anything.

The Tanto/Serrated Blurs have never been made with any other type of serrations besides the ones you have on yours.

Awesome man, you just bought an automatic knife on eBay! Congrats. :D
EBay is so funny.

That was at one time a tanto blade since the model number is 1670TBLKST, that's why the serrations look different, it doesn't have anything to do with the blade steel. I'd guess it's 14c28n, it's new enough to not have a date stamp and it's got the tractec inlays instead of the grip tape, really there's nothing that makes me think the knife is old, just abused. If it had a premium steel like BDZ-1, S30V or CPM154CM it would be indicated either in the model number or etched elsewhere on the blade.

Thank you all for your responses. I have never dealt with Kershaw CS, but would they, or could they do anything for this blade? I am not too sure which way I want to proceed with this, as I don't even have it in hand yet. I didn't notice that it was supposed to be a tanto when I bought it. It seemed like a good deal when I saw it, but now I am not too sure. Especially since I had something come up the day after I bought these that made me have to sell off some of my knives for quick cash. I have never owned a Blur and will have nothing to compare it to when I get it.

Kershaw recently announced a blade replacement prgram. $25.00 IIRC on regular production blades. Kershaw has the best CS in the business, send them an inquiry.

Just looked at the KAI website. They say $10 blade replacement for a broken blade. I will send an email to see if it covers user error like improper sharpening.
