I mostly purchase Spydercos, but really like the assisted opening on these Kershaws. Can you guys offer some opinions on these two?

Blur
pros: blade shape, handle shape
cons: heavier, trac-tek grips

Leek
pros: g10, lightweight
cons: tip looks delicate, not a huge fan of the look of this knife

I am definitely leaning towards the Blur at this point. I think I can live with the extra ounce or so of weight. I have no experience with the trac-tek grips, but some have said they are a bit too rough. They're both s30v, so that's not a factor.
I know the Leek has a huge following. It has g10 an is a bit lighter. Are there any other factors I should be considering? Which one has a better locking system?

Thanks!

If you like the weight and look of a BM 940, check out this Random Leek, S30V blade steel, fastest assist I've ever owned - FAST The serrations sucked at first but I'm over that and they slice paper as easily as the rest of the blade. http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=KS1660TGRYST

PS: This model is a framelock and the perfect weight too!

Had the G10(s30v) leek and honestly wasn't a big fan of it. If you like lightweight, it delivers, but G10 just isn't my thing. Extremely comfortable in the hand, but hell on the pockets. It's a great looking knife, too, imho, especially with the stonewashed blade. The tip isn't as fragile as some people say, and not as fragile as on the hollow-ground leek.

As for locking systems, the leek has quite a tiny linerlock. I wouldn't go using it as a hard use knife in any case.

It's like of a case of apples and oranges. They're extremely different designs.

the new blurs have a rough rubber insert instead of the skateboard surface type of insert they had originally. the rubber seems to protrude more from the scales, but it's easier on the pocket.

i don't notice the weight. in fact, i think some of the G-10 or zytel or frn handled knives are too light.

Both are great knives.........my vote would be for the Blur. Larger handle, great utility blade, (it holds its spine thickness all the way to the tip), and if you don`t like the trac-tec inserts, you could always replace them with some carbon fiber.;)

Thanks for the info. The blur seems to be the better choice for me. I didn't realize Kershaw had updated the trac-tek inserts.
I really like the look of the carbon fiber inlays. Is that a custom job or are they available pre-cut to fit?

Enough showing off... :D
That looks awesome, plain and simple but elegant.
I vote for the Blur also, I've found it more usable for my EDC uses than my Leek, I love the Leek, but it's more of a light duty EDC IMO.

I have both a Blur w/Trac Tec scale inserts, and a Leek in bead-blasted stainless steel. While the Leek is beautiful, both the depth and thinness of the grip and the smooth finish make it really slippery. The Blur’s grip size and rough scale inserts make it easy to grip securely.

I haven't owned either but I prefer the overall design of the Blur.

Note: The Blur, due to it's recurve blade, might be harder for some folks to sharpen if you aren't use to a recurve. The Leeks blade is much easier to sharpen if you DIY. If someone else does your sharpening, disregard this note hehe. Good luck.
