I’m out on recurves every time.

The recurve is what I like about the Blur, nothing cuts like a properly sharpened recurve on a pull cut.
Great thread though, kinda, these threads almost always cost me $$$, Mini Grip ordered today.
Also had me decide to grind a Blur to a classic recurve, the boa as my inspiration.

I didn't read all the comments but I think the Griptillian is a nicer knife, but not worth the extra money.

The Blur is a great knife, all things considered. Good steel, good design, great price, fun to use and carry.
The only thing I don't like about the Blur is the liner lock. But I am biased. I saw a knife with a liner lock fail and the user almost severed their pointer finger. So that makes me nervous.

The only thing the grip has on the Blur is the Axis lock. Is the Axis lock worth the extra $50~
Maybe.

This really is a cool thread that's thankfully staying on topic. That being said, no way in Hell do I think the Axis lock is worth $50 more.

It's a cool lock, for sure. But I don't fancy it any more reliable than a liner lock. As far as the comment above, I don't think you have much to worry about. I've had several Blurs and none have closed on me.

It was a Kershaw that turned me permanently against liner locks. I have never had any problem of any kind with an axis lock.

I find the Kershaw more aesthetically appealing. I handled a Mini Grip once and it felt cheap and flimsy. Some people say that about Seki Spydercos, but the Mini Grip made me feel that way more than any Spyderco, except maybe the Byrds. So the Mini Grip was not appealing to me. That being said, once I started using opening hole knives, thumb stud knives lost any longevity they may have ever had with me.

I'm more concerned the price of a Kershaw has doubled in a handful of years. I'm used to be "Benchmade tax" being a thing but the Griptilian is now S30V and hasn't doubled in price. Has Kershaw stepped up their game that much???

Have you gone shopping lately.....for anything? and say.... noticed the price now vs 6 years ago on everything?

Which model has doubled? Looks like the same pricing to me. Maybe you're seeing the magnacut Blur and thinking it's the regular Blur? The "special" steel models always cost more. It's still $130 compared to the latest $360 Benchmade 🤣 🤣 🤣
Their standard models are still under $100.

I’ve owned two Kershaw Blur’s and four Benchmade Griptilians. I can’t say I necessarily like one over the other, they’re two different knives, not similar in my eyes. If I had to take one and leave one, I’d take the griptilian and leave the blur. The griptilian lock is superior in EDC and one handed use. The griptilian comes in superior (for my use) steel (although the blur takes it in the fine edge department, sandvik steels take a great edge across the board). The partial recurve in the blur’s blade is annoying. I have a blur in red and also in black. Black blade and satin blade. I have a cabelas griptilian in d2, a custom in jade g10 and s90v, a half ti/half cf in s30v and a 154cm partial serrated (which I gifted to my brother).

Oh absolutely. My least favorite part is paying more to get less of usually lower quality.

The first post said a Blur was $57.43 on Amazon and I did a quick look on KnifeCenter and found one in 14C28N for $99.95. But now that you've made me go back and look I scrolled and see another one for $79.95. The first one is all black and the other is uncoated with blue aluminum. I guess ninja style costs more?

I don't care to buy knives on Amazon since I'm to leery of clones or swaps from returns but they do have the 14C28N Blur at $84.47.

The Griptilian was $102 at BladeHQ and they currently list it at $144 for the standard now in S30V which I do feel is a nice upgrade over the old 154CM. KnifeCenter lists the sheepsfoot version for the same price but they seem to be out on the regular.

FWIW, I don't care for the full size Griptilian since the internal short liner locks over a cylinder of the plastic. Mine went loose from flipping open that thick slab of blade steel because the plastic deformed. I swapped the plastic out for aluminum AWT scales which feel much better in hand. That's only odd to me since I'd swear the mini grips all have full steel liners.

Rationalized attempt at backing previous statement complete. Acceptance level neutral at best. Yes I favor KnifeCenter for whatever reason I'm not sure why.

I'll take the blur grip call it what u like is an overpriced plastic knife
Stop bumping years old threads just to complain about BM, this thread was over 6 years old and the other thread you bumped was over 11 years old.

Start a new thread if you want to bitch about BM.

This thread and the other necro are closed.
