Kershaw Blur vs Spyderco PM2

Goods and bads of each knife?

the kershaw blur is a pretty swag knife all around only problem would be the pocket clip dosent ride that low but for the money you cant beat it.And the spyderco paramilitary2 is just a extremly swag knife with ergos and its jimping is amazing with a good choil you can use for fine cutting tasks.overall both knives are great and reccomend both.

Thank you bro. I may have to swag both of them

I wanted a blur initially, but I don't really want to invest in a fancy sharpening system. I have a few whetstones (240, 800, 2000 and 5000 grit) as well as a ceramic bar that I use for my kitchen knives. It's highly impractical to sharpen the blur's belly on that, whereas anything else, from a full bellied knife like a Tenacious up to a wharncliffe blade such as the Cold Steel Tuff Like sharpens perfectly on that (although I haven't actually needed to sharpen the Tuff).
Just a thought if you plan to buy the blur.

Here's my brief analysis made up of some fact & opinion...

Blur S30V - cheaper, easier to find (new), assisted open (which can easily be removed if you don't like it)

PM2 - G10 scales, compression lock, more ergonomic grip

Bottom line - they're both great knives

I used to have no problem at all sharpening my Blur on my Sharpmaker fwiw. In fact my Blur was that one knife I was always able to most easily put a scary sharp edge on, but unfortunately I lost mine. With that said I prefer my PM2. I used to hate having to grab anything from inside the pocket my Blur was clipped in because the thumb studs and the grip tape were abrasive and uncomfortable.

My vote is for the PM2. I prefer the compression lock over the liner lock. The blade shape of the PM2 is also more useful for me. The handle ergos on the PM2 are much better IMO. The fact that I own 4 PM2s that I keep in EDC rotation vs 1 Blur that I keep in storage to remind me of what a Blur feels like should speak for itself.

I used to recommend a blur to any person seeking to buy a knife for less than $100 bucks. I still do, actually, but with the added comment that they'd probably be better off getting a pm2 or zt 0566 for about $115. A blur for 50 bucks or a zt 0566 or pm2 for $115? To me, the answer is clear. I'll carry a knife for years. I figure if I keep it for 5 years, that's 23 bucks a year, or 6 cents a day. Well worth it.

As to the original question, everything about the pm2 is better than the blur. The blur is a great knife for 50 bucks, though.

I'll take the Blur. I guess I'm one of the few people on the planet that isn't wowed by the compression lock. And the handle to blade length ratio is still not great, even with the redesign that gave us the Para2. The Blur is great as an AO, but even better de-assisted. Silky smooth. Can get a bunch of blade steel upgrades now, even Elmax (which is nice). However, I'm plenty happy with what I can do with 14C28N. And, you can find blems for rather good prices. As far as the handle goes, I agree that the rubber grip surfaces can abrade the pockets after a while. I found a solution for that: I used a razor blade, very carefully mind you, to scrape the rubber areas down until they were level with the aluminum surface. Then I, again very carefully, applied a flame briefly to these rubber areas. Smoothed them out nicely, but they still grip very well. Just not as crazy rough as the original surface. All this being said, I would take the Military over both, in a heartbeat, if the state didn't consider me a criminal for carrying a blade length over 3.5".

I like the clip and lock of the PM2 better. Everything else swings towards the Blur for me

If I recommend a Blur it's the CF ones. Specifically the CPM154 CF version, sexy knife. Quality steel. Had it de-aissted, smooth as glass..It can stand up to real hard use yet looks good enough to bring to a dress up event and everything in between. Recurve on Blurs makes it an aggressive slicer which I love. Just an overall GREAT knife with many flavors to choose from.

I'm into PM2's pretty hard. That's all I gotta say about that lol.

Both are very good, but I always go with the Blur for EDC. Can't really give a logical reason, just feels right to me.

The blur trips my trigger more than the pm2, both great knives but the pm2 is a little over hyped here.
I could be happy with either for life, but there is just something in the aesthetics and feel of a blur that is just right.

I own a blur combo edge tanto in 14c28n and I love it. I don't like combo blades and I'm not a huge fan of tantos so that speaks to how nice the blur is. I don't own a PM2 but I'm in the market for one soon.

Question to everyone about the blur: There is an ELMAX version available for about $100, why is it this cheap when ever other elmax blade I see is at least $200 usually more? Does Kai not do a great heat treat on elmax or something? I'd expect the elmax blur to be talked about non stop on here like the PM2 is, but it's not. Just curious

Sounds about right, actually. You can get the ZT0566 for just over a hundred, and it's Elmax. I had one for a while, and liked it. Preferred the lighter weight of the Blur for EDC.

Interesting. I'm gonna have to pick up that elmax blur in a few weeks :)

Blur has the speed safe, I hate assisted blades

PM2 is perfect in so many ways. But IMO, it comes down to your price range. If you're not married to a steel, you can get a blur for 75 bucks in s30v, and a Paramilitary 2 for 140 dollars plus depending on the model with the same steel. So taking steel out of the equation, you're left with ergos, company preference, lock type, warranty, and f & f. I can't stand thumb studs, so the Spydie hole is perfect for me.

I'd go Para2, you have to have one, and later if you want get a Blur.
