Hey guys. Just got a blue, again. To make a long story short I had owned one before as I had bought it forca trip to Maine. But then I got thinking that maybe Id be better off with a victorinox swisstool. I made the right choice but missed the blur. So my gf got me one for Christmas. I haven't really been able to put it through it's paces. What do you guys think of it? I got it in red with a plain edge. Ok now my fingers hurt. I'm on an iPod touch LOL.

I love my Blur. I EDC one every day. It seems to have all the right combinations of size, weight, thickness etc.

The blade on mine was made in january 2008. Anything special about it? My old one was an 06. Did anything change? Do those grippy inserts ever wear away or chip? I'm going to try and make it my new EDC but im afraid of ruining it lol i love that knife. How well does it hold up? I'm not an abuser of knives at all, i keep the blades away from metal and don't pry with them. I'll occasionally sharpen a stick, but mainly boxes and all types of strings and plastics are cut. I've always been afraid of scratching a blade with plastic blister packs. Is that even possible?

If your new one has a JAN 08 BOD, it's 13C26 versus 440A on your old one. Definitely a step up! The Trac-Tec inserts won't chip, but they will wear with time. A lot of time. Years of time.

Go ahead and use the knife. It's a tough platform, and will take regular use with little maintenance. Touch the edge up when necessary, put a drop of oil in the pivot when needed and it will last you a very long time.

If you want more info, visit the Kershaw sub and ask away. Enjoy!

It just has Jan 08 on the blade and then it has the model number on the blade near the thumb studs like usual.

I likem'. Keep one in the rotation. I let a friend look at mine the other day, next thing I know he's carrying one too.

I have one in Bead Blasted S30V and I love the knife, I use it every day. But the blade is all scratched up and ugly looking (finish wise, not shape wise). Any ideas to make it look a little better?

How did you scratch yours up? And what are the properties of that steel as far as general use is concerned? How's it hold an edge n stuff.

I scratched it up a little bit by trying to sharpen it on a small diamond hone. The edge holding is pretty good, but I haven been having trouble with sharpening mine recently because I lack stuff to sharpen it with at the moment so I can't comment on it to a fuller extent

I liked mine, a silver/black Kershaw 25th aniversery? model. Anyway, I gave it to my son and he immediately opened his thumb with it, requiring stitches. It opened like greased lightning and was sharper than a mother in laws tongue.

Yeah, kershaw knives are amazingly sharp. I like the whole design. The inserts in the scales don't do much for me but its a comfortable knife. Like i said, i'll mainly use it to cut blister packs, cardboard boxes & tape, zip ties and random other things around the house or workplace. Will the blade look like crap? I have no idea how my super tinkers blade got scratched if it was even me or not, my uncle had owned it previously. But, i like to keep them looking new so if it will ill just use an older knife or scissors lol. I like the positive snap. My brother just got a kershaw scallion, sweet knife! I like the flipper. But i like mine more :-). My new EDC is the blur and a vic. centurion.

I would have owned one by now save for the inserts. I know it's pretty superficial but I just can't get into the look of an insert on a knife. For some dumb reason my brain equates inserts as looking cheap and gimmicky even though I know they work pretty well. The only knife I own with inserts on the scales is a Remington AO that NEVER gets used anymore.

If the Blur were offered in a typical scale material such as G10, Zytel or Micarta without some insert configuration I'd probably own one by now.

Just me though . . .

I don't think that I have a blur. I carry a Blackout and JYD often and a Leek for dress.

I had a red&black one too, SANDVICK C26 steel . Nice knife, very sharp indeed, quite a wide blade but considering how sharp it was I can say it was a useful knife. Felt good in hand , tric-trac inserts assures a good grip indeed.
Bought from e-bay with 55$ I have sold it in Romania for 80$. I might consider buying another one , to keep it for me this time :)

The inserts don't bother me, the thought of them wearing out, breaking apart or getting nasty is my only concern. I love the blade, i'm glad i got the newer blade with mine, i feel special lol i guess it worked out for the better for me.

You don't see much about the Blackout anymore, at least I haven't. I had one when they first came out and I remember it being a great knife to use as it was very comfortable in my hand, and the 440A took and held an edge for what I was using it for. I see you mention that knife a lot jim, you certaintly seem to have put it through it's paces!:D

For me, when the inserts wear down they get a lot better. The ones from the factory are too grippy/scratchy in my opinion.
